Does a screen protector blur the retina display?

Basically guys, I noticed that my Xtreme Mac™ Tuffshield™ makes my screen look very grainy and I can tell that it isn't what the screen would look like without the protector. It's antiglare and all of that, and I am extremely careful with my iPod. It's literally in a secondary leather full body case when I'm not using it at any given time. So my question to you is : (1) could the screen protector oils potentially have any long term effects on the retina display? and (2) Is it time to take the screen protector off and enjoy the retina display (half the reason I bought the thing) , and just exercise caution?

iPod touch, iOS 4.3.3

The only issue a screen protector should have on the actual screen may be on the oleophobic coating. Some screen protectors may remove that coating, which is intended to make it easier to wipe off fingerprints. However, no screen protector should permanently change the actual display. The reason the retina display doesn't look as amazing is the anti-glare portion of the screen protector. Those screen films seem to make the screen appear to be not as sharp. I use a regular film, not an anti-glare one, and the retina display looks just as great as when it has no film at all.
