Safari 5.1 for Windows - Back Button Closes all tabs

Also Having this issue in Win 7. Have tried repair, uninstall reinstall. Hitting back just closes everything. No back button history.

Same problem happening here... I'm surprised there aren't thousands of people posting about this, it's super annoying!

I now have the same problem as soon as I updated to 5.1. Up till then I was not having any problems with previous version of Safari.

Sent bug report to Apple.........not sure what good it will do.

Was using Safari since Firefox has issues with locking up CPU after being open for half a day or so.

XP Pro SP2.

Ok, I figured out that opening multiple tabs all at once, whether on start up or choosing a folder & choosing "open all tabs" for that bookmark folder will open these tabs & somehow associate ALL tabs with a command within a single tab.

Opening Safari with the option to "all windows from last session" will open multiple tabs & the problem with the BACK button will not be a problem.

You can also open Safari with a single tab, then open additional tabs one by one & the tabs will not be affected by commands issued in another tab.

I have now uninstalled Safari 5.1 and installed 5.05. solved all my problems for now. Still running Windows 7

I think I'll need to do this, because the 'back' issue is driving me crazy. Can you tell me where I can find 5.0 for download? When I search it, I keep landing on the 5.1 download page.

I have the same problem and MAN IS IT ANNOYING! When I can remember, I use the backspace key on my keyboard and that has the desired effect of opening the previous page in the open tab. How does stuff like this get released to market?

I guess that renders the START UP folder useless. Warning - DO NOT DELETE THE START UP FOLDER ITSELF. I did this and every time Safari launched it attempted to load ALL of my bookmarks. What a mess! Better just delete the contents of the START UP folder. Then you can operate Safari in the cripple mode. BTW I am running Safari 5.34.50.0 for Windows... for a while at least.

Right - found a workaround for the PC (mac is not affected).

Instead of hitting the back button, hold it.

This will bring a list of all possible back pages, select the one you want.

Once you have done this, the back button behaves a bit better.

Thank god !!! I thoght I was losing my mind !!! Yes, this problem can be worked around by opening individual tabs and going from there, but this "bug" (if it IS a one) has essentially destroyed all of my tabs. My entire workflow when coming into the office each morning depended upon my ability to open multiple (and I mean MULTIPLE) tabs, which I had for a long time now set in a series of bookmarks in numerous folders spread across the bookmark bar. All of that is useless now. This move has added an untold amount of time each day to my work schedule. This simply CAN NOT be a new feature. I've thought on this for a while and can't come up with a single reason why hitting the back button and closing ALL tabs except the initial one would be considered useful. It HAS to be a bug. My heart simply can't believe that Apple would do something this stupid. If they have, wow man, they REALLY dropped the ball on this one.

I too could not believe this browser behaviour. The first think I did is look for an option to set it back to normal. Was this some iOS feature that had got pushed into Safari.

I have tried the "hold" the back button but the only option it gives me is "set of tabs".

Also, this version of Safari seems buggier than before. Often I will get a corrupted bit map on one of the tabs.

It did it with this tab for this discussion and I had to switch to IE because no matter we I pasted the url a corrupt bit map appeared.

I'm having the same issue since the update. Any sign of Apple fix this with a nwe version of Safari soon?

I have the same issue and it's driving me crazy. I'll try the "click and hold" fix but Apple needs to get on this. Crazy that this cleared internal testing, seed testing, etc.

Even more crazy that the bug hasn't been fixed with the latest update. The Safari 5.1.1 on Windows still have the back button bug, not fixed.

I am running Windows 7 (64bit), does this happen on other Windows versions?

AND it seems to be getting worse. It used to just happen occassionally, but now it is almost guaranteed to happen.

This is nuts. I'm on Windows XP Pro.
