Restore missing menu bar in Lion?

So, menu bar is missing after installing 10.7. Only spotlite is shown, but not working, shows "waiting" when mouse over. Repairing permissions does not help. Any ideas? Problem is that I don't have internet acces since Airport icon is not shown, and when trying to acces it via system preferences, it freezes. So upgrade to 7.1 is not an option..

I was having the same exact issue with the status bar/path bar missing. I did an upgrade from Snow Leopard and this was the first thing i noticed was missing. I found a solution that worked for me.

In Finder go to View -> Show View Options

(My Arrange by was set to None & Sort by was set to Kind)

Changed to Sort By to None and Arrange By to Kind and then back to Name

Suddenly the status bar and pathbar appeared.

Hopefull this will help.

I've been having the same issues on my Macbook since Lion came out. I initially called Apple Care and they had me reset my PRAM. Now, this worked for a while but, about two weeks ago it started up again. Resetting the PRAM doesn't fix the problem now. Only starting up in Safe Mode then restarting the computer through the Apple icon at the top will fix this.

I thought I might have picked up a virus somewhere. This past weekend, I ran 5 scans on my computer and luckily I do not have a virus. So, this leads me to believe its a glitch in Lion. Since we haven't had an update to Lion in a few weeks, not even a security update, I think we're due for one pretty soon. Perhaps this is why its taking so long to provide an update.

This is a pretty serious issue and I hope Apple can fix this soon.

Hey I had the same problem which I managed to partly solve so thought I'd share my Wisdom 😝

The problem seems to be with Lion trying to restore your previous session,

Press the power button on your mac, Then deselect "Reopen windows when logging back in"

Now click Restart

Hey Presto! Everything loads normally

Hope this works for you as it did for me 🙂

I've read through this thread and it looks like nobody has so far come up with a solution. The recent update a week or so ago did not fix the issue.

Here's the specs on my system:

iMac 27" i7 3.4GHz

12GB RAM, 2GB Video card

1TB Hard Drive

Third-party software:

Adobe CS5.5 Production Premium

Mozilla Firefox & Thunderbird

Asteroids 3 widget

I also have the Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, and I'm experimenting with leaving that out to see if that's the problem (since every time I turn my TV on or off it seems to switch all the display modes on the Mac).

I'm posting a video in about an hour to show the issue.

Some apps show the menu (apple icon, various menu items, clock, etc) and others don't. Shutting down completely and restarting do fix the problem, but it inevitably (and randomly) comes back.

Hoping, like the above author, that Apple fixes this soon, because this is a huge glitch in the OS. I literally got this Mac a month ago, so it's not dying of old age.

Had the same problem, looked here, fiddled and came up with two ways to solve my own version of the problem (MacBook Pro, Lion)

First, if iTunes not at the front, bring it forward: press Command + Tab enough times to do this.

1. Hold down Command + Spacebar. This brings the menu bar up at the top. Choose View then Exit full screen.

2. Press Control + Command + F which is the keyboard command to do the same thing

Worked for me!

I had the same missing menubar on my brand new MacMini running Lion without installing anything fancy

I discovered that it had to do with my display. Apparently the menubar is there but my Samsung display shows the menubar outside viewable area! I tried a few resolutions and got part of teh menubar in some lower resolutions

You can still access teh bar by clicking and guessing.

Solution that worked for me:

System preferences>display>increase underscan slider in order for menubar to appear

Good luck
