Save As, Gone?

this is just one of the many, many stupid things they did with Lion!!!! it make the Vista fiasco look like a walk in the park.

The loss of "save as" is the most frustrating change for our entire staff. We share and pass around documents. We often use these documents as templates since the "save as template" is less than effective. This is causing me, in effect, to lose all my templates one by one.

Ironically, to duplicate and rename, you have to start to close the document before you can do this. Very cumbersome and unnecessary.

Update and give us this ioption back.

I'm quite sure that I wrote quite hundred times that a template is just a standard document azerty.pages renamed as azerty.template

I'm sure that I wrote more than hundred times that here you aren’t speaking to Apple representative but to end users like you.

If you want to say something to Apple, don't rant here, use the dedicated channel :

Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu , describe what you wish.

Then, cross your fingers, and wait at least for iWork'11 or 12 ;-)

You have to tell Apple this. Here we are all end user just like you and can't do any changes.

I feel your pain! Eventually I think we would get used to this but why should we have to? I decided to stick with Microsoft Office for now. Far less frustrating. All Apple would have to do to solve this problem is to create a "preference option" to turn this option ON or OFF. While I realize that it's built this way because of the Auto-Save function, again, I would recommend giving the user the option to use or not use in this manner.

i've already commented on this if not on this discussion but maybe on another. it really is a stupid idea.

you've go to 'Save a Duplicate' in order to then do a 'Save as" why make what was one step into multiple? The changes that iOS5 brings to Office are even more egregious.

now that is something that usually is more than impossible considering it is Microsoft...

What will you do when M…oSoft will update its products according to Lion's features ?

Well, Yvan, perhaps this is one of those posters who would say "I write what I want, the way I want" — or maybe "I never make any effort to rub up the right way." (Sound familiar?)

How is it that you won't grant to others the "right" you claim for yourself?

I notice that you never chastise the posters who use these forums to praise Apple up and down for their wonderful decisions. You never tell them "This is not what these forums are for." This statement is reserved only for those with whom you disagree.

Until you start doing this, your words here — like all of your many others — ring hollow.

The problem with the mesage to which I respond is not what was written.

I made no comment upon its contents.

It's that here we are in an users to users forum.

The sentence :

"Update and give us this ioption back." was clearly written to Apple's attention.

Alas for its author, Apple representatives will not read it.

So to be efficient, such sentence must be posted in a channel where Apple representatives will read it.

No less, no more.

What I think about it is already well known so I will not comment the rest of your message.

Sending feedback directly to Apple is, of course, a very good idea. But anyone who insists that no one is allowed to vent in these forums has got a stick up his backside. It's only natural that this will happen in any gathering of Apple aficionados, and I don't notice anyone at Apple deleting posts with this content (unless they contain personal attacks). Apple does monitor these discussion. more than once an Apple monitor will enter into the discusssion with some information or a link of where to go to find information on the Apple site.

a couple of times i've even had a monitor actually respond by personal email over the years.

you can also find some posts that will have 5,000+ responses/entries; you can bet they are watching those; when a lot of people are commenting on the same thing i think they will look into the problem.

don't go away; our input is important and a lot of the time we have better answers than the 'genius's' do...

Wow. You can tell there are management changes in the air at Apple! Jobs primary desire was to make a product that people (a.k.a. "customers") would enjoy and be able to easily use. Now, anyone who is unhappy with the Company line is told to "Quit acting like a disappointed child" - where have I heard that sort of thing before? Oh yeah! Microsoft! ... and the government!
