It appears that Steve has already achieved mythical and beautified status.

These changes would have been made under his watch. He was also responsible for many of Apple's love it or leave it decisions.

I'm late to this discussion because I just returned to the Apple world after being held for more than 10 years in Windows World. I was concerned about the save a version. I had read about the backup scheme and liked what I saw but didn't make the connection until reading all these posts. I discovered the duplicate trick on my own. The extra steps seem to me to be a small sacrifice in the overall process. In fact, it allows me to save a new file somewhere else and then I am able to go right back to the original file, should I choose to continue working on that one. All things considered, it's not a big issue for me. It clarifies that I have created a new file with a new name that I can save wherever I choose, without losing my place in the original. Seems like an improvement to me.

It was presented by Jobs himself and what was described last week by Tim Cook is just Jobs choices.

This operating system is perfectly matching what was described since several years as "Things to Come"/

They tried to fix something that was not broken. . . and in the end, made a mess!

As one of the early posters to this thread, I have to say that I still absolutely hate the unnecessary complications created by this decision on Apple's part and still praise Microsoft Office every time I get to do the obvious thing and quickly use "Save As" to rename and create a new version of a document in one step. Love hurts.

i had a problem with this but the way they changed it has turned into something that is much easier for me to use.

when you go up to File and hold down the Option key Save As shows up in the dropdown! i thought it stupid at first but it then works just like the old way.

if you click and hold on the name at the top of the PDF document you will get a dropdown that automatically shows up right there with the options Rename, Move to iCloud, Move To, Duplicate & Lock plus Browse all versions. you can either rename it right there on the document or a Finder window opens to save it where you want.

this has really made life easier for me than the old way, since i need to save things to open in PDFpen to modify, combine & edit. (i gave up on Acrobat Pro years ago - waste of money

guess it wasn't as stupid as i first thought. what IS stupid is that they don't make anyone aware of the changes they make.

the same is happening with iOS 6 - there are so many changes that my friends and i are having fun but going crazy...

Assume you are referring to Mountain Lion--for those of us who haven't upgraded yet, the functionality you describe isn't there. However, maybe this is the reason I've been waiting for to go ahead and upgrade...
