Apple Mail, Searching is worse!

I thought Apple Mail searching for emails was suppused to be easier, so far it is worse!

I may be missing something and hope I am, but when I type a name of a person "Smith"....

...I cannot find/sort by sent?

...I cannot find/sort by Name

...I cannot find/sort by Subject

On occasion I see a blue highlighted: sort by Name, but that is about it.

It is really bad and worse than Office 2011 and worse than SL's Apple Mail.

Thx much for any help you can provide.

Thx Satch,

I need a good song to cool me off :-) How about "Throwing Stones" by the Dead :-)

Just did the work-around again by moving the envelope.index file to my desktop and as Mail was importingall my mail files (in-sent-deleted etc.). I got an error message saying the my mail files are bad/corrupt.

This also happened last week, after I tried this for the first time and after trying it again all was fine.

Going to try this gain, to see what happens.

Meanwhile back to Outlook 2011, would much rather use Mail, which I like so much more (when it is working properly!)

Satch,

Thx Much and yes I did the rebuild. I think that me and Mail do not get along...wish we did as when it is working properly, it is light years ahead of Outlook 2011, but it just cannot work properly for any reasonable period of time.

Will continue to check in here for any suggestions and upgrades, but in the meantime "I have given up" and will stick with Outlook 2011 for a while.

Keep the good tunes coming...

Please count me among the frustrated! I cannot figure out how to search for a keyword in the sender, or "From:" field. I get emails from a monitoring service call Nagios, and the emails come from nagios@this.derp.com, nagios@that.derp.com, nagios@theother.derp.com, etc. I never send to those addresses, so they don't show up as "people" in the search drop down box when I type in "nagios." And even if they did show up as people, what I really need is to find all messages with the word "nagios" in the sender field, so I can grab them all and delete them or put them in some folder.

The ability to search From and Sent has not been removed. The inability is just one of the charming bugs some people are experiencing, as I was until Apple tech support gave me the aforementioned help. Maybe what helped me will help you.

Even working properly, I'm not fond of the changes made to Mail.app, but perhaps their virtues will be revealed in time. Or maybe they are an example of change merely for the sake of change.
