Problems after QuickTime 7.7 update

Same issue here. It seems to be with HDV files (720 25p) on my machine.

Apple ProRes is still working.

All these files open on my laptop with Snow Leopard and Quicktime 7.6 / Quicktime 10.

There's a problem with 7.7 on my main MacPro edit machine with OS10.5 and the upgrade to Quicktime 7.7.

What to do? Wait for a fix? Upgrade to OS10.6 on a new drive? Re - install system and block the 7.7 upgrade.

Same problem here too. None of my HDV .mov files will open after the QT 7.7 update. I get an error message reading: "The file is not a movie file" or "An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie." Final Cut Pro will NOT import the movie files either - returns an error message. Everything was working perfectly (2 days ago) before the QuickTime 7.7 update.

I'm in the same boat and not happy about this problem...

No tech I have spoken to has heard of the problem...

I fixed the peoblem by reinstalling Leopard however now my compressor won't work and my DVD Pro doesn't recognize Quicktime files, it errors...

Thank god for Toast......

I'm limping through productions all because of this quicktime upgrade...

Is there any way to just uninstall and reinstall an older version of Quicktime?????

Here is the rub with this problem that I can figure.....

After reading regarding the 7.7 unknown public movie atom in 7.7 while using Leopard with a G5....... they aren't going to address or fix this problem. Power PC is no longer supported and they didn't test QT 7.7 with Leopard and the older G5. It appears the QT files play the HD files in Snow Leopard that won't play with Leopard on the Power PC G5. So problem fixed as far as Mac is concerned. Snow Leopard plays these files with an intel machine. The fix with the older Power PC Mac's is to install your old OX system and upgrade everything except QT. I did this and fixed the problem on my G5, however compressor and DVD Pro problems arose, but I can bypass with toast. I purchased two Power PC G5 Mac's 8 months before they switched to intel. I have had a very hard time being a Mac fan since. They now concentrate on their revenue producing tablets, iphones, ipods etc. Mac used to be where the professional went to get a professional product and professional support. Not the case anymore. I can't ever find a tech or so called genius that can answer a real problem. I find I know far more than they do and their answer is always to look on the discussion forums. Mac used to have techs view these and answer to help ius poor saps out trying to get a video deadline etc.

I never thought I would say this but Mac has turned into Microsoft.....

It saddens me to no end, the professionals have no where to go now....

I have read reviews about FCPX and it is a glorified imovie product. Making it easier for the imovie, ipad user but cutting down many of the pro look and needs FCP was famous for.

Sorry for the rant and getting off subject, but spending 5 solid days trying to get HDV files to play that played for three years was beyond frustrating.

With Mac buy new stuff or risk not having it work together..........

Don't know how to help but when I did the upgrade -was watching a movie in Second Life.com(streaming) it finished,tried to play another and it just quit on me.Took a look at quick Time ,it needed an update I agreed.Have uninstalled,reinstalled,set all necessary streaming choices and still nothing.Tried the quick time test for streaming and can hear fine but no visual( http://seminars.apple.com/seminarsonline/wctest/apple/level2/wctest.html ).Have been dealing with this ever since update came.I am on windows vista 64 bit,if anyone is experiencing similar probs or has a fix let me kno...

I have a Power Mac and I am having the same issues you all. I reinstalled the Snow Leopard and Quicktime work But my iTunes has some issues(iTunes Store componets) but I can now see my HDV videos. I also heard the 201-006 Sercurity Update was the issue. But before all of this I was told to download(pacifist) and that pretty much was useless and I am looking into getting my $20.00 back cause it had not effect on my Power Mac and as a Matter of fact it gave me BOOT problems. So as it stands right now I brouht the power mac back with a install. not a Clean Install. Just drop the disc in and let it go throught the process and it work for me.

I have an intel dual core and have the same problems. I believe it is in looking at HDV files. Will be creating another system disk to run final cut. My system was bullet proof for 3 years until this latest quicktime and security OS update. And, no; I will not be going to Lion and no, I will not be going to Final CutX

I found a work around. No need to do the pacifict nonsense.

You need to be able to access a machine that has not been updated with the latest quicktime update. (I installed Snow leopard on a spare drive so I could use this process) In the updated system folder/library delete the components and quicktime folders. Empty the trash. Then in the non-updated System/Library copy the components folder and the quicktime folder and paste them into the updated system/library folder. (make sure you have already deleted and emptied the trash of the offending folders or this won't work). Restart the computer. It should see all files as it did before. Worked fine for me.

pacifist is it! thank you dingeaux!!! took me 5 minutes to downgrade to 7.6.9.. although the problem costed me around 15 (not billable) hours for converting with handbrake etc.
