Unable to verify time machine under Lion

Under SL, it was possible to verify my Time Machine - simply hold down the Option button while clicking on the TM icon in the Status Bar. A useful option to provide some peace of mind that the TM backup was ok.

No more under Lion? The option is still there but is now greyed-out and no longer available?

Any ideas anyone? Should I report a bug on Apple Feedback?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7)
