My iPhone didn't come with the app store app and I am unable to get apps online or off iTunes. I'm clearly missing something obvious so could someone link me to a page where I could download it?

That app comes pre installed on the device.
Try swiping through the screens.
And swipe to the left of your Home screen. Type App Store in the search field.
It can't be downloaded.
If nothing above has helped, restore the iPhone.

Go to Settings>General>Restrictions check if app store is restricted. If all restrictions are disabled or enabled, then toggle it once to enabled and back disabled or vice versa and then check.
