Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. Copy & paste:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain userReturn and let the process run to completion, it will put you back out at the prompt.
Restart your Mac
Did that work for you?
Ok lets try this in terminal, copy and paste:
killall Dockand
killall FinderInterestingly, I get a new icon (sometimes corrupted, sometimes not, but never the Trash icon) whenever I run
killall Dock && killall Finder. Have you tested the issue in Safe Boot?
EE
My next suggestion would be to delete your ~/.Trash directory and recreate.
I tested in Safe Boot and the issue does not exist.
Deleting the ~/.Trash directory worked like a charm. Thank you.
Well that was a stubborn situation, and I am glad it resolved. Good computing!
i have corrupted icons on my external discs, (movie discs for WD Live player) meaning, that jpg icons are not displayed as other icons, for example, files "xxx1-10.jpg" are displayed as the same wrong icon image in the finder, but when i press spacebar to preview the jpg file i get the right correct preview.
what could i do please?
thanks
A little clarification is needed:
Do you desire the icons of your pictures to be thumbnails? (smaller versions of the picture itself)
Do you desire the icons to show the program the pictures would open with? (Preview, PhotoShop etc...)
EE
thanks for help,
yes these are standard osx 10.7 lion icons on the desktop from jpg images with 200-2000KB.
no, the icons should not show the program, they show the thumbnail of the jpg image.
it always shows the wrong thumbnail and always the same wrong one, not a different
Is this issue isolated only to your desktop icons or is it pervasive throughout the whole folder structure of your computer?
try this:
1. Click on the background picture of the desktop.
2. View>Show View options (from the top menu bar)
3. Is the "Show icon preview" checkbox unchecked?
also, is there any way you could supply a screenshot of some of the effected items?
EE
its isolated to the harddisc which is connected to the WD LIVE HD Player somtimes.
there the icons are displayed not with the picture itself, (only the thumbnails) they are displayed with a different picture from another jpg image.
yes, my finder is set to show icon preview.
screenshot i can do, but you wont see anything special, just a bunch of jpg image thumbnails in the
finder window, where you can see, that some of the jpg thumbnails have the identical icon preview, although they are different JPG pictures and are not related to the thumb preview at all. it has nothing to do there, you know...
thanks!
