If I purchase a song in iTunes on my computer, then put it in a playlist (not a smart playlist), will iCloud sync that into the same playlist on another device?

Tried it. Looks like the answer is no. It's a shame because now I'll still have to organize content in playlists, and manually sync to get songs in the right place. Undermines some of the usefulness of this feature of iCloud.
No (do correct me if I'm wrong). iCloud only allows you download your past purchases or automatically download recent purchases on your associated devices.

Yeah. That's a bummer. I just edited some playlists on my iPhone and checked my iTunes but it didn't sync. Hear that wherever you are Steve Jobs? Tell your guys to fix that. 😉
And to make matters worse - when you plug in to sync your playlists... you will end up with duplicate songs on your iPhone/iPod. For some reason the cloud puts the songs on your device, and then your computer puts them on it again... super bummer.
iTunes Match, however, does do this. Now that I've subscribed, it performs exactly as I want it to. The only catch is that when you import a new song, you have to wait (briefly) for iTunes Match to update before you put the song in playlists, or it doesn't "stick" so to speak.
I have my music library on my mac under itunes.
I use icloud to sync my music to my Idevices however as you observed playlists from my macs itunes arent synced.
itunes mac -
turn home sharing on , option under Advanced
iphone
turn home sharing on. Settings->Music->home sharing
Now the playlists are visible on the iphone and stay with it even when the home itunes library is not reachable.
Will iCloud sync which playlists I put purchased songs in?
