I have not seen the video however, I would be careful about this method. The trackpad is glass not metal. It could crack.
I your MB is without integral battery, I suggest take out the battery and carefully examine it. It may have bulged very slightly and that could cause a problem. How old is the battery?
That's right. Have to be gentle. My battery is swollen and I am currently using this MacBook without a battery before a replacement. You might be on to something. That might be the the reason behind this issue.
Ok just watched the video, yes, if you have access to that screw, you can adjust it. Once again, I would strongly suggest that you look closely at your battery, any swelling of the battery will cause the trackpad to lose its click and become like 'solid'. Because the battery from below is exerting pressure due to the bulge and reduces the 'room' the track pad has for clicking.
The issue was with no battery at all though.
When a battery starts to go bad it generates lot of heat which expands the stuff inside and cause it to bulge. Constant pressure with heat will deform aluminium and I guess that is what may have happened and the gentle slam probaly 'pinged' it back to flat. Aluminium is a metal well known for its 'creep' properties.
Still, if some incompatible software is corrupting the OS, you may need to do an SMC reset each time, until you find the offender and update it.
Got the exact same problem, right after upgrading to Lion, si I'm convinced it's software related. Magic Mouse and magic trackpad work just fine. I feel no problem when clicking the trackpad, it's not hard or anything. I will try the safe mode and SMC reset when I've time.
I've been having the same intermittent problem. I just tried turning off all the options in the Trackpad > Point & Click section. Seems better, but only time will tell.
I did what putnik suggested and it worked. Yeah!
This worked for me when I went to System Preferences >Universal Access>Trackpad options. Down on the bottom of this window it has Trackpad Options/ Click there then Click the box Dragging and arrow to choose Drag Lock. I also had Scrolling checked and arrowed to with inertia (smooth scrolling)/ If you'd rather it not scroll so fast arrow to without inertia. (In case anyone wondered the difference)
I also discovered that under System Preferences>Trackpad that under the first section of showing how the new (upgrade from leopard) track pad works it shows you can three finger double tap over a word to highlight for the definition and three finger slide to move the windows/pages you are viewing. So you don't have to click and drag the windows around.
Thanks putnik ! I hope this works for everyone else. Sorry if I provided Too Much Info. Happy repairing.
Same problem here. Unfortunately, there's two solutions: pay for professional support or buy a mouse... I prefer the second one.
Same is happening with me. I can't write. Think it is a hardware problem.
