canon mp navigator ex and Lion not working

Hi all,

Since Mac OS X Lion, my Canon MP Navigator EX doesn't work anymore. I removed everything Canon (prefs, extensions, folders in App Support, etc.) and reinstalled everything... still the same error from MP Navigator EX. 249.0.0.0 Scanner in use.

I can scan via Preview or Image Capture, but that is one scan a t a time and you have to set the scanning options/area every time. With MP Navigator EX I can scan 50 or images in one batch, modify them and save them all at once into a folder (and MPNEX numbers them just fine!) or into a PDF. Much, much faster than with Apple's standard tools.

So, does someone here experience the same thing or uses other scanner software that also does batch scanning and works with an MP630?

Thanks!

Mac OS X (10.7)

When I download those applications from Canon, Apple will not let me open them. Saying MP Navigator ex-206 can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. In image capture there is no scanner shown, I've tried turning on and off hoping that it will register it... still nothing.

Because this version of MP Navigator does not have a digital signature, you have to Control-click (or right-click if you have enabled it) the MP Navigator installer and select Open from the menu that appears. You may then get another prompt about this app not being signed, click Open to continue.

If Image Capture does not show the MP630 then there could be an issue with the ICA driver that should have been downloaded from Apple when you added the device. Assuming you have no issue with printing, thus indicating that the physical connection between the Mac and MP630 is okay, then you could try installing the ICA driver from Canon.

Just one more note about the scanner. You will not be able to use the scanner if you have the MP630 connected to another Mac or if you have its USB cable connected to an Airport Extreme or Express.

We have the MG6150 - I can not open the MP navigator, it goes immediatly to an error message. Will installing the ICA driver work with the MG6150? So far anything I am downloading from Canon will not open with Apple. It says its in my security prefereces that I do not want anything opened unless from a trusted source. I do not know how to change this?

Okay. Different models of Canon MP, MG and MX series use different versions of MP Navigator. I incorrectly assumed you had an MP630 since this is what the original poster had.

So for you MG6150, called MG6250 here in Australia, it uses MP Navigator v5.0.2 and v18.0.1 scanner driver. For MP Navigator, select the installer after mounting the dmg file and Control-click. Then select Open from the menu as shown below.

If you just double-click the installer then you will get this message.

But if you hold down Control and then click the installer, you should see the messages as above.

Well, at least this what happens in 10.8. But I thought that same is available on 10.7.5. If not, open System Preferences and select the Security & Privacy tab. The General tab has entries about what applications can be installed. If you change this to Anywhere, then you can install the application. Note that you will probably need to click the lock in the bottom left section of System Preferences and authenticate in order to make the change. And after installing MP Navigator, revert the setting back to Apple and developers.

As for you having the MG6150, the drivers and MP Nav are different to the MG6250. So please get them from Canon Australia via this link.

Just wanted to say that downloading the new ScanGear does fix the issue of a grey preview. It is available here (for the MP980) and is under the 'Drivers' section, called 'MP 980 series Scanner Driver'

http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_serie s/pixma_mp980#DriversAndSoftware

I removed all my Canon softare, installed the driver then MP Navigator EX and all works as it used to.
