iPhone use in Lebanon

Hi, i just bought my dad-in-law who lives in Lebanon, an unlocked iPhone 4 from an apple store here in US.

I want to surprise him with this gift. My only concern is when he unwraps his gift and puts in his local sim card (Alfa), and fires up iTunes, i am worried iTunes will not work there.

So i was thinking of making an iTunes account here in US with my address but his name. Then load it up with like a $15 card. Then when he opens up his gift in Lebanon and fires up iTunes, he can log in with teh account i created here, and he would be all set?

The factory unlocked iphone will work in lebanon.

I baught mine factory unlocked from canada and I'm using it in lebanon.

As for the account I would absolutely advise you to create an account for him using your pc and seeting the address in the US and loading it up with credits for an itunes card.

itunes cards are sold in lebanon in some location but at a ripoff prices!

the 50$ will cost you 72$

note that if you do not create a US account itunes gift cards will not work in lebanon unless the address on the account is from the US.

I tried creating an account for a friend who bought an ipad and I was unable to use the credits if you set the location lebanon. I even tried using a canadian address and it did not work as well, it gave me an ivalid number promt.

so I am guessing the the cards that are sold in lebanon are bought from the US.

I hope apple does something to resolve this problem by providing lebanon with itunes cards that are sold for the nominal value instead of adding a 40% commision charge!!I am not even sure if selling itunes gift card in lebnon is even legal!
