iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store
iPad 2, Windows 7
Hey, any idea what the command should be for a Macbook? I'm assuming the one you've posted is for Windows because it's not working on my Mac.
You are correct - this is a Windows community dialogue. Winsock is a Windows software adapter that allow programs to connect to the Internet. There is no exact comparison to Mac OSX and none of the Windows specific solutions mentioned here will work for you. See if you can find an Apple community group with the same subject.
I had the same problem and resetting winsock resolved it. iTunes would endlessly display "Accessing iTunes Store" without ever actually connecting. I couldn't Authorize my computer to play purchased music or buy new music. I would have to kill iTunes in Task Manager and restart iTunes. I am running Windows 7, installed latest version of iTunes recently. Uninstall and reinstall didn't work. Here's how my husband finally got it working:
The last 4 or 5 lines at the bottom of the document (pasted entire string of text below) are the things that I ran to get it working:
iTunes is NOT enabled in Windows Firewall.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
The network connection timed out.
Basic connection to the store failed.
The network connection timed out.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
The network connection timed out.
Last successful iTunes Store access was 2013-02-04 14:12:42.
Start | Run ... | cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
So I have this issue as well. here's my story:
Wiindows 8
latest iTunes, which synce with my iPhone no problem and it lets me update the apps that need to be updated - hence it is talking to the app store.
When i click on the ITunes Store, it tries to load, the bar gets about 7/8 of the way across and it crashes. I get a message that "iTunes has stopped working - A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
If I hit debug I get a variety of messages based around a "unhandled win32 exception in iTunes.exe" with error numbers [660] or [13116] or [ 6920]. I do NOT have a debugger installed (not a programmer).
I have tried everything in this thread including the netsh commands and all of the ipconfig commands. I have run the itunes diagnostics and it passes all of them. I have turned off Windows defender, checked the firewall settings, tried to go to a specific apple web site (about apple IDs). Everything checks out.
I called Apple Support and effectively was told after 1 hour on the phone, that this is a windows PC and the person doesn't know much about windows. As I can get access in the office with a different PC it must be this PC and it is probably that my internet provider is blocking this PC !!!
Does anyone have ideas for anything I might have not yet tried
thanks
..steve
I had the same problem after the iOS7 updated. However, after trying several of Apple's solutions without resolution and reading through this thread, someone else posted information about a conflict with Sprint SmartView. Realizing I just recently installed this program (3 days after iOS update), I uninstalled it and voila - iTunes store is back and running...I did not have to uninstall and reinstall iTunes. I recommend opening your control panel, go to uninstall programs and sort by date - if you know when your iTunes store stopped working you should be able to isolate the culprit.
Your comments are good, but unfortunately do not help me.
I do not have the Sprint program, and I cannot place a date on when iTunes stopped working (or even if it ever did work on this computer - it is a new computer).
Not wishing to remove all the programs one at a time until it works again, I was hoping for some other ideas. The Apple support folk have been decidedly unhelpful. The final statement was "I don't really understand windows computers and it seems to me that it is your ISP blocking it"!
Having tried to run iTunes from other locations (and failed) I know it is not the ISP and Apple not understanding how iTunes runs on Windows computers seems like a total copout to me.

Why wouldn't I have Administrative rights? I bought the computer brand new. Had it built at Dell. But it acting as if I am not the Administrator, so I will try your suggestion.
I'm having the same issue. Did you ever get a reply on what to do next?
I'm sorry. I don't understand what you wrote. The last five lines or whatever. Are we supposed to copy and paste all of that into the command prompt????
Administrator rights are a Windows OS issue, nothing to do with iTunes. Some business PCs have diminished administrator rights and restrict some software installation. It sounds like iTunes was installed for a different user than yourself. I suggest you uninstall iTunes.
Then, follow this process which is described further back in this message chain. Find the Command Prompt in Windows. Normally, this is in the Start/Programs/Accessories folder. At the command prompt type "netsh winsock reset" without the quotation marks and enter. You then have to restart your system.
Make sure you are logged in as administrator. Reinstall iTunes. Depending on your Windows setup you may have to enter a password to complete the install. You should now be able to connect to the iTunes Store without difficulty.
This has been no help to me.
To be clear.
I uninstalled all Apple products using the Apple http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.
I rebooted
I ran netsh winsock reset from the Dos Prompt
I rebooted
I installed the latest version of iTunes as an administrator (right click on installer and select as an admin)
Everything completed fine, but still when I click on iTunes Store in iTunes I get a message that says iTunes has stopped working.
I have talked to phone support - They don't understand windows installations. I have visited an Apple Store, they don't have anyone with Windows knowledge!
All I want is for the store to work again!

Sorry. This worked for many others. One last thing to try is to check your firewall settings - Windows Firewall or third party. Look for exceptions to allow specified programs to access the internet and make sure iTunes is in the list. If it is not, add it and see if that solves your problem.
iTunes is set OK for both private and public. Is there something else i can check?

I have same problem since weeks ago. I found that this can help.

As I stated above. I tried the netsh winsock reset to no avail.
I was interested in the other suggestion and downloaded the autoruns software. It shows that i only have Bonjour services BUT I have both a 32 and a 64 bit version running (both dated 8/32/2013 but slightly different times.
Is this normal?
