[Solved] People who have difficulties downloading Windows Support Software from BootCamp 4.0

I cannot download the Windows Support Software because I get the error saying "Can't download Windows Support Software because it's not currently availiable from the software update server" and When I do the steps that quekfromsingapore said, I boot into Windows and click on setup I get an error message that says something like "This version of Bootcamp is unsupported on your system" or something like that. What do I do? I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 on an iMac late 2006 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

May I know does this driver file works for macbook pro 9.1 (15 inch mid 2012 non retina) too?

I cant seem to find the version for that model.

Use the "Troubleshoot Compatibility Mode" - control click on the installer msi or exe

You can also change Properties to help install. And run as administrator.

Get further by listing Windows version, I assume you managed to get 64-bit installed and that is why you have that error.

I can't find the right version of BootCampESD.pkg for my iMac Mid-2011 (12,1). Can someone give me the direct link for the correct .pkg?

Also, forgot to mention, I can't download from BootCamp Assistant, because when I try to, it stops at about 15%, and says "Cannot download because of a network problem". I have no network problems that I know of, I use the internet every day, and there aren't any issues.

And you looked at the common suggestions to do?

Boot in Safe Mode

disable auto proxy advanced network setting

make sure you have the right primary network interface connection only checked

Not using Norton firewall or LittleSnitch

Change your domain name servers to OpenDNS and try.

And your router firewall doesn't block any ports needed to be used by Apple.

You can use the internet everyday and have trouble with Apple's BCA PO-PITA utility.

Here are my notes from clean install win7 to macbook pro retina 10.8

for only $99 purchased Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit) (OEM) http://bit.ly/RD26mM

using another computer with dvd drive, insert win7 installer disc and using disc utility create a new image with settings cd/dvd, uncompressed. This will create an image on the desktop with the extension ".cdr". Change that to ".iso" and leave on desktop.

insert an 8+ gig flash drive. Using 10.8 run bootcamp and select all 3 options and bootcamp will use that iso image and create a win7 installer on the flash drive. If will take a while and then it fails repeatedly when trying to locate the bootcamp drivers from the apple server. This is a known problem. If you hit "next" after the error message it finishes the win7 install to the flash drive but without the drivers.

After researching this problem, I found the drivers for this mbpr can be downloaded from here http://tinyurl.com/9259b94 The apple server is so slow I used http://www.igetter.net/ to download the "BootCampESD.pkg" 940 meg file...thanks Nikhilr! Double click the package to install on the mac side. Then I used the app "Find File" to locate "WindowsSupport.dmg" mount this and copy all the files to a folder you make on the flash drive "Boot Camp" The folder can be any name but these files must go in a folder so as not to disturb the win7 install files on the flash drive.

Now run bootcamp assistant again and select the bottom choice of install win7, it will then allow you to partition the bootcamp ...I used 38gigs. Then is will reboot to the flash drive and go through the long install process. You will have to choose the partition to install win7 to and then click advancd to format this partition to ntfs. Bootcamp formats by default to fat32 so it must be changed. Eventually you will enter the serial number of the win7.

After win7 is installed then mount flash drive and install the drivers in the Boot Camp folder. Then restart and all should work.

I'd like to second the request for the non-retina Macbook pro (9,1) drivers if anybody could be of any help that'd be much appreciated. That old lion link that was posted where you could try and manually figure out which pkg to download for your system no longer works.

Ok, I think I've found it! I got a Macbook Pro 9,2, and according to http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/11/05/041-0925/g27es04pw9re5ggrfp3vuf8e w6r53asfz8/041-0925.English.dist, you can use this for both 9,1 and 9,2. Here is the download link:

Use it at your own risk though, because I have not tested this on the 15-inch Macbook Pro!

I downloaded that file, but my boot camp control panel in windows is missing the retina options. Any suggestions?

As of 11/20/2012 5:04pm, the Boot Camp Assistant (BCA) in Mountain Lion downloads the WRONG package for MacBook9,1. This is confirmed by re-downloading the package, twice, without success from the BCA. Manually downloading, using the method above, succeeded.

That's the reason people are coming here with issues. The Boot Camp Assistant is broken for many newer laptops, it seems.

Why can't you edit your own messages? Dumb.

Anyway, re-downloading the correct package STILL didn't work. (Though it was the correct package, it gave the same error, while the BCA download was just the wrong package.)

I used THIS METHOD to fix it, and it works perfectly now.

Then you can push it again and edit again (it's on the bottom of your post) for 15 minutes after you post.

Scroll down to point 6 and click on the different urls to find your Model identifier number. I was lucky that point 7 identified my Mac Pro5,1, but all model numbers are there using one simple click to find which download is for your Mac.
