What are you using as a mouse pad for Magic Mouse?

I like using a Guttenburg Bible, but stay away from the illuminated bits 🙂

I use my desk mainly.

I too simply use my desk.

Mine is on a simple, 8' Formica counter top that Home Depot sells for a kitchen. I simply use it to cover a series of two-drawer file cabinets. It forms the long leg off an 'L' at the RH side of my desk. The iMac sits on the end of it in the corner.

I've had none of the issues you mentioned in the last couple of years. For what it's worth, I still have the yellow tape on the black rails that constitute feet. It's gets a little smutz on the feet, but wipes off.

The claims that the Apple Magic Mouse will work on any surface are categorically untrue. This mouse tracks awfully on some surfaces. Does it move? Of course. Does it move well? no.

My Magic mouse simply stalls and won't move at times on my naked desktop (faux cherry laminate). Ditto on the Allsop Redmond mouse pad. It was improved on the Allsop widescreed cloth/foam pad but it still suffered from stalling and poor tracking. Before returning the mouse, I thought I'd try an ultra thin pad with a pattern print to help the optics. This worked.

The best solution I found is the WOWpad by microthin. I bought it on Amazon and it simply works a treat.

I have had my new iMac and Magic mouse for about 4 weeks. My computer desk is made by IKEA (I don't know what country you live in) on which is a semi-rigid plastic mat (which I bought separately) half the size of the desk (it's designed to keep the desk top clean). It feels like nylon. It feels smooth to the touch but can be dented a little by pressing a finger nail hard in it. It has just the right degree of friction for me.

I think such a surface is unlikely to wear down a mouse very much, compared to paper (which is fine but probably rather abrasive), or a Formica desk top (which I think could also abrade.
