how can i change date and time after importing a file

hello

i'm importing AVI files first in iMovie because Final doesn't support (other question i put in) but when i see the scenes form 1993 they have the date 2004.

i believe 2004 is the date i put them on the computer.

Now i looked in the help files Final Cut Pro but cant find anything to adjust the date and time.

it works well in iMovie using the help files:

Right-click the clip you wish to edit and click Adjust Clip Date and Time from the menu that appears. Or click on Archive and than adjust date and time

But as i said i cant import the files in FCP have to import them to iMovie files adjust the date and than import to Final Cut Pro but than de changes i made to the date and time are gone and in FCP 2004 is again the date of the file!!!

Question how can i Change in Final Cut Pro the date and time in a same way as iMovie does?

I just noticed something that may give a hint as to what is going on...but I can't figure it out. I am hoping you can.

All my event folders except the 2007 August folder simply have the clips within the event folder. However the 2007 August folder appears to have a subfolder with an icon that looks like a man in it. See below screen shot.

What is this subfolder? Perhaps I imported wrong? I of course have the original files so I can always re-import.

I was hoping to create a new event and then move these files into it thinking that the date of them would create a new year and month "category/folder". But Any new event I create only shows up in the current month (June, 2012). Is there any tricks like that that would get me past this issue?

Again, any thoughts greatly appreciated.

You have chosen 'Group Clips By > Content Created' (using the same view settings menu you used to choose the 'Group Events by Date').

Events can only be shown in the order the content was imported.

There is an app that can change the creation dates of many clips at once to a specified date (and time if needed):

Hi Tom and Alex,

Something went right but I can't reproduce it. I tried ABetterFinderAttributes on only one file in the 2007 August event. When I opened FCP, it had created the event in 2007 as I had hoped. I then deleted that file (since it was a copy of one of the other files) and the files remained in the 2007 folder! This is exactly what I wanted! But....

Then I thought maybe it was a coincidence. Perhaps I simply had to go in and out of FCP and/or disconnect the drive. So I imported another file (from Dec 2007). Exited FCP. Disconnected the drive and tried again. Nope, still no Dec 2007 folder. I used ABFA on this file but it did not work this time. So I think I am back where I started but made some headway. Unfortunately I have about 3 years (and not quite but almost 36 months) to correct the date so I really need to figure this out. I looked for a feature that allows you to rebuild the library but could not find one. Is there a "rebuild event library" feature?

Many thanks for your help
