I use virtual guitarist 2, now on Snow Leopard.

Hello,

I work with Steinberg Virtual Guitarist 2 on iMac Snow Leopard OS.

I read little or nothing about whether it will still work or not work on OS Lion.

Occasionally I read that this will not work.

Am I doomed to stay at Snow Leopard OS, or even never to buy a new iMac (standard Lion installed)?

This VG 2 software is an important tool for me.

Will there be any solution available in the future?

iMAC, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

I received an answer from Steinberg support.

Dear Luc,

thank you for your email. I understand where you're coming from, but please

also note that support for Virtual Guitarist 2 has been discontinued for quite a while now.

However, you can manually edit the path in Lion.

On your Macintosh HD where Lion is installed go to Library -> Preferences and look for

"com.steinberg.Virtual Guitarist 2.plist"

Double-click the file to open it with the Property List Editor.

You should see one entry called "Data Path". Alter the path to the one where you have installed the content,

e.g.

/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Virtual Guitarist 2 Content/

Then save the file and close the Property List Editor. Now Virtual Guitarist 2 should find its content.

If you have further questions feel free to contact me/us again.

Thanks!

Hope this works.

For everybody's info:

I installed some time ago (from the original CD) VG2 on my older MacBook, (begin 2008), and put the VG2 content in my MacBook hard drive.

At first VG 2 did not find any content but...

I just copied the content preferences of my most recent iMac Time Machine to my MacBook's Library (C drive), and it worked! Without using Xcode 4 .?

Copy directly from iMac was impossible, even not allowed!

PS: working now on Lion!

Hello,

I have my now my new iMac with Mountain Lion!

I migrated everything from my older iMac (Lion).

At first VG2 did not find its content, and I noticed that the plist was not copied to the perferences during migration.

So I simply copied "com.steinberg.Virtual Guitarist 2.plist" from my older iMac (password needed), and everything works now!

Happy!

Stefan,

I am now trying to install VG2 on a new Macbook air Mavericks using your method, with Xcode 5 (not Xcode 4). And i can´t get VG2 to find the location... May be I´m an idiot, but could you please try to help me out?! I am desperate to get it to work....

I have copied the .com steinberg file from an iMac with a working installation of VG2 and I have been following all your steps in order to change the path....but it´s not working...

Any chance you would happen to what i might have missed in your steps?

Thanks a lot!!!!

Hiya,

So, which DAW are you using? I only ask as I switched to Logic X and upgraded recently to OSX 10.9

Under Logic X 32bit plugins are no longer working, so I used 32 Lives which was brilliant under OSX10.8, but the VG2 conversion they do to a 64 bit plug needs to be"fixed" under OSX10.9 which I am already chatting with the company that makes 32 Lives about and they are actively working on it now.

To get VG2 to operate I simply installed VG2 and its content on another machine with a partition of Snow Leopard. Then I used the integrated tool to move ("migrate assistant" I think the tool is called in english) all files, data and programs to my Macbook Air with 10.9. For some reason the com.steinberg-plist-file was not included in migration but I simply migrated that one manually. And it works!

  • I installed some days ago OS X Mavericks and the new Cubase 7.5.
Most of my old Cubase projects took the VG2 settings and gave me a normal playback.
    • With one cpr I started to have problems: there were two VG2 guitars included, only one worked but at the start position of the second guitar track, Cubase froze.
    • I reinstalled VG2, copied the .plist, but the problem persisted.
    • What's more I was not able anymore to insert new VG2 channels in any of my older projects, not even in a new one.
    • I proceeded then as follows: I created a new rack instrument and dedicated it to a track.
    • The styles were now visible, but could neither be chosen or loaded (only the first style "Power Pop Chops" could be played with the play button, but NOT loaded).
    • Then I just hit the button "Save" in the VG2 instrument window, the "Save Style "windows proposed to save the .fxp in the "User Styles Folder", but I did'nt proceed and I hit the "Cancel Button"...and
    • everything works fine now. I can load all the styles and parts, but , sorry, ⚠only after the "Save" attempt.
    • I have no explanation but it works after several tests on new cpr's, even after several restarts of Cubase.
    • I do not have a clue why I succeeded. Am I just lucky? Anyone an idea? Santa Claus
  • 😕

Hey dude,

I have recently updated my os and vg2 app can't find the content anymore...

I have tried finding the plist file but it is no one to be found...

Since you are running vg2 successfully on your machine, would you be so kind as to provide me with a copy of your plist.file so that I may modify it with Xcode and regain functionality of my vg2. It such a great plug-in and you'd be doing me a huge favour?
