I just tried it myself, and it did not work for me either. But it did work last October when I got the email reply from ABBYY technical support -- so you may need to contact them directly to send you an FTP link. Pasted below is the email I sent to ABBYY technical support:

Subject: Help installing ABBYY FineReader Sprint on Mac with OS X 10.8
I just purchased a new Epson Artisan 837 for use with my iMac running OS X 10.8.2. Epson instructions said that not all the applications that came with the printer -- including ABBYY FineReady Sprint 8.0 -- would necessarily run with the new Mac operating system. They suggested contacting the software developer, which in this case is ABBYY.
I downloaded the updater for ABBY FineReader Express, and it asks for a serial number. Obviously I don't have one. Do you have instructions for how I can get your software to run on my Mac? Thanks much for a reply.

Hopefully you can send a similar email and get a similar reply.
As to my earlier comment about Vuescan (what a great product, BTW), it does include both English and Spanish OCR and it does work well (not perfect, maybe 5 percent OCR errors). But not as well as the ABBYY software, which in my opinion is virtually 100 percent for both English and Spanish. I am very happy with Vuescan for many reasons, and if I could not have gotten the free ABBYY software to work I would just use Vuescan -- great scanning software, well supported, runs my old film scanner too in Mountain Lion, but not free.
