my iPhone 4 won't sync to my iTunes

I just got a new macbook pro, and when I went to sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes, it recognizes, but it the sync process lasts for about 5 seconds, and says it's done syncing. But when I go to check to see if the songs I purchased are there, nothing has changed.

All software is up to date.
