HP 1102w on OS X 10.7 Lion - no wifi support?

Hi there.

We bought the Hewlett Packart P1102w today cause it was listed as a certified Mac Printer in the Internet.

The Printer works fine with USB but it does not work on WIFI. I checked the HP webpage and there is an issue, that it does not work with Lion.

I have to do the HTML Settings on the Printer and a red window opens with an error.

This is the Error:

This page contains the following errors:

error on line 6 at column 47: Entity 'nbsp' not defined

error on line 12 at column 8: Opening and ending tag mismatch: link line 0 and head

Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

So what is the solution for this problem.

I really want to print ONLY WIFI and not with the USB.

Can you please tell me where the problem is, cause others in different boards made it work somehow.....

Thank you in advance.

I previously used the printer connected via USB to my Time Capsule wireless network on Snow Leopard and Lion. Now I have the printer connected wirelessly to my Time Capsule wireless network and it's available to my iPhone & iPad via AirPrint. Here are the steps that worked for me:

  1. Install latest drivers: installed from HP LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution.dmg when directly connected to my iMac via USB.
  2. Update firmware: installed from HP LJP1100_P1560_P1600_FW_Update.dmg when directly connected to my iMac via USB. There's no indication that the app is finished, so I waited about a minute before proceeding.
  3. Turn on printer wireless: disconnect from USB and power on. Press the printer's wireless button once and wait a couple of minutes so that it assigns itself an IP address. Change your Mac's wireless network by choosing the printer's ad-hoc network name (it was HP8A8294 for me). wait another minute or so until your Mac assigns itself an IP address.
  4. Access the printer web-based setup page: print the configuration page by pressing the printer red X button once. The printer's IP address will be on the right side under the Network Information section. Type the IP address into your browser to access the web-based setup page.
  5. Change the printer to use your home wireless network: click on the green Networking tab in the top menu then the Wireless link on the left menu. Type in the network name in the Current Network Name (SSID) field or select your network if it's listed in the Available Network Names (SSID) list. Choose the appropriate Security Mode from the drop-down list and enter the pass-phrase. This is the same process that you would use when you want to add a new computer to your wireless network. Click apply (don't worry if the web browser page doesn't refresh - you can't access the printer right now because the printer is now on your normal wireless network).
  6. Add as a new printer: change your Mac's network back to your normal wireless or wired network connection. Go to the Print & Scan preference pane in System Preferences. Click on the + to add a new printer. You should now see the printer name under the Nearby Printers list. Select the printer and it will be added to the list of printers quickly because the drivers should be installed already. The list of printers now shows two printers with similar names, so I suggest AirPrint to the name of the one that was just added to reduce confusion.

Your printer is ready to be used by any iOS device via AirPrint as well as any Mac on your network via Bonjour. If you want to access the options and ink levels, you simply go the Print & Scan Preference Pane, select the printer and click Options & Supplies. You can even access that web-based configuration page again by going to the General tab and clicking Show Printer Webpage.

The firmware update mentioned above, applied via Windows XP (running under Fusion) with the printer directly connected to my iMac did it. I can print over wifi from my iMac (Lion) iPhone, iPad and iPad2.

Could be dumb luck, could be the process I followed:

1) Connect to a PC or Mac running Fusion/Parallels and add the printer under Windows.

2) Download the firmaware updater from HP and run it under Windows.

3) Add the updated printer to your wireless network.

4) Disconnect the USB cable and add the printer via System Preferences in Lion.

5) Printer should also be available to all iOS devices after update to enable AirPrint.

Thanks, dude - worked like a champ.

You have to hold down the Red "X" button until the page prints, but otherwise, everthing worked like a champ.

I did have problems with my wife's laptop not seeing the printer reliabily, but it turns out, for some reason, that the printer was using Auto DHCP rather than a manual setting. Once I changed that it worked OK.

Thanks for the help!!!

For anyone still having problems getting this printer to work under Lion, here is a great video tutorial that, most importantly, highlights the one last step that HP leaves out of any of there instruction. After the USB driver installion with the "latest" drivers from the HP site, you mist DELETE the printer from Preferences|Print & Fax and then click on the + button to add a printer and your 1102w will then be seen on the network.
