MacBook air and projector connection.

Hi everybody

I am having some issues with the new Macbook air (mid-2011) and connecting a data projector. I got the adapter to VGA and everything seems to work fine most of the times when booting MacOS Lion. However, sometimes the Macbook would not recognize the beamer resolution and switch to 648x480. This can then be adjusted manually and works.

Booting into Windows 7 (Bootcamp installation) gives different issues. 2 out of 3 projectors tested refused to recognize the signal from the Macbook. The third did everything automatically with the correct resolution. Putting the baby to sleep and waking up did not help. Connecting the adapter before/after beamer was ready did not help. Manually setting resolution as well as using Win plus P shortcut did not help. The graphics card driver seems to be the newest available.

Any ideas what I could try?

Thanks.

Jochen

Regarding your windows problem:

Some projectors don't work properly if the broadcast resolution is not supported by the projector. If you know the supported resolution, try setting it to that in your macbook prior to connecting to the projector.

This problem has driven me crazy. Yes, I do have a very portable laptop, however, no matter where I bring my Macbook Air to, it fails to connect to the projector -- then what is the purpose to be portable?

I followed suggestions in this thread and updated the display driver and all other recommended driver updates from windows update. My air still cannot connect to the EPSON in our confference room.

I finally bought an USB to VGA adapter. Thank God it works, otherwise, I will have to get rid of my Air and seek alternative laptops.

Sorry, I take back what I said in my previous post.

I just noticed that Intel labeled several versions of drivers as "Latest", but actually there are differences. You should install the one released on 1/21/2012 (version 15.22.54.64.2622), not the one released on 9/3/2011 (version 15.22.50.64.2509).

This solved all my problem.

Hi Bydict

Would you be able to please recommend a USB to VGA adapter that i could try. The drivers on the intel site are for Windows 64 bit and unfotunately my directors MacBook Airs are running windows pro 32 bit. I would like to get a USB-VGA adapter to try but would like to get something that people with MacBook airs have had some experience with.

Thanks

I bought the following one, although not from this seller:

I have been stationed in Beijing for a few months, so I bought from a local store, it costs about $20 here. From the packaging I got, I can see that they are exported to the U.S. as well. I also looked at the details of the above link, I think it is indentical to what I am using.

Good luck!

Its very strange I can Mirror/duplicate the screens and it works fine but I cannot extend the screens. I just get a blank screen on my secondary monitor where the slides should be displaying and my pimary monitor shows powerpoint or presenter view if it is being used. Are you using a specific resolution on your secondary monitor or just the default one?

Also frustrated as I got my MBA to replace a heay 17" HP when travelling. Desperate I grabbed the Apple DVI adapter with hope of using a DVI-VGA adapter with the Apple DVI is a D with no VGA pins. I'm in Canada and grabbed Best bUys RocketFish variant of the Apple VGA adapter and works a charm on monitors that didn't previously and through switch boxes. Also looks like teir DVI adapter may be better as well but haven't tried it
