Recently installed SSD, random freezes

I just got my Kingston HyperX SSD today and installed it... so far things are alright, but I'm getting random freezes and hangs. It never did this with my other hard drive, so it has to be the SSD. It seems to happen more often when the machine is indexing or while installing things.

When I first started installing Lion on it, it did so pretty slowly compared to how I expected it to since it's an SSD. It took about a couple minutes before anything happened, then it would install and the bar move about a twentieth of the way then it would stop for about 3 minutes and then continue. I didn't think anything of this and thought it to be normal.

After stuff was installed, I opened up Activity manager to see what's up, and on the disk activity tab, I'd notice that whenever it froze up, there would be no read/write activity at all, which points the finger at the SSD. I could sit here and type this and never have it freeze up, but for instance when I open up System Preferences and click on a preference, it would freeze up for about 30 seconds to a minute.

I checked Kingston's website for any firmware updates and there are none as of yet, and I can't find anything with Google for my SSD.

Any thoughts?

Revision:501ABBF0

That was the problem! The tutorial was for the ones that have bootcamp and os x on the same drive. I had on a different drive, and I missundertood when the tutorial said change the MBR on your SSD.

uff! but finally!! I updated the HYPER X Kingston - 120 to the firmware up there and now Safari 6 doesnt freezes! on mountain lion!!!

GREAT! thanks bb426 for all your patience!

No problem! Glad to have helped out! Hopefully this will be of help to others with the same issue. If you want, you can enable trim with Grant Pannell's method (search the name in google), or just leave it off. Either way, I've seen no difference in performance with the HyperX (due to its already native garbage collection).

Cheers!

I have it enabled currently.

How long are the freezes? Are do they only last a couple seconds or how long do they last? And how frequent? I have a feeling it's something up with something you have installed (conflicting software or too much software running, or a bad plugin).

The freezes are most likely having nothing to do with the SSD... because if it was, other applications would freeze the same way you are seeing with Safari.

Ok. I installed the TRIM support with the Grant Pannell's method.

I also think the same as regards to Safari 6. But it is very strange because I've just made a ML clean Install.

The FREEZING happens lig this. After some heavy loading os a web page, it just freeze, and if you want to click something gives you de beach ball. The only way is to force quit. And maybe, if you try again on the same page, it will load. But in the next link can happen the same.
