Docks, Speakers, and Power

I got my first ipod (a nano), and I would like some advice about accessories.

First, is a dock really necessary?

Second, I want something to charge my ipod without plugging it into a computer. There are two devices on the ipod Store, one is the "iPod USB Power Adapter" (but it sounds like I need a dock to use it with a nano) and the other is the "Apple iPod FireWire Power Adapter" but it doesn't say its compatible with a nano. What type of adapter should I but, and will it need a nother cable to plug it in, or can the USB cable be used?

Third, I need some cheap portable speakers...they are for work, so they don't have to be loud. Anyone use something like a "Logic3 iStation Shuffle Speakers" which Costco currently sells for $40? It says it can be used to dock and recharge, so I guess that would mean I won't need an adapter...but how do these little speakers sound? Half-way decent?
