To connect to a 5-year old HDTV CRT from Samsung with only compnent and VGA inputs, I bought an HDMI to component converter (HDView). I thought I was homefree but the image on the screen, while clearly generated by the ATV, is split vertically and very noisy. Would I see even this much if input settings on the TV (for the resolution of the incoming data) were incorrect?

Thanks!

Two things to check that stand out immediately. Firstly I note that it can output Y,Pb,Pr and RGB over component, it's not clear whether this is switchable or via different outputs but it would be worth checking you are using the type that matches your TV input.

I'm not sure though that would cause the distortion you describe but it's difficult to tell. The other area to check is that your TV supports 720p

The TV says 1080 on the front so based on that I assume it can support 480 and 720. This is a Samsung Dynaflat CRT. I have lost the manual and, irritatingnly, the model number is not printed anywhere on the case, so I cannot download new manual. Is the ATV2 output 720? Would the screen image be as I described if the TV did not support 720?

I have a monitor with VGA input, and I suppose I should try it to make sure the ATV and ViewHD converter both work.
