How to convert .mbox format to .olm or .pst format?

Hello, I'm trying to export my e-mails from mac mail to outlook 2011. Mac mail has .mbox format which outlook 2011 doesn't support. Does anyone know how to convert .mbox format into .olm or .pst formar so that I can import my e-mails to outlook 2011? Thank you. Regards.

Don't bother to convert, just setup your mail account in Mac Mail and it will synchronize to your actual account (which lives online)

Outlook 2011 is very crash happy, especially if you imported from Entourage.

Emailchemy is not free but it Will convert your entire Outlook account (mail/contacts/calendars) to a format compatible with Mac Mail/Address Book & iCal, there is a free trial but it will only import a limited amount until you pay, and paying is worth it, it's an excellent utility.

I am too trying to import my mbox files from Mail.app into Outlook 2011 for Mac.

The link provided by cpickrell leads to the same infos you can get through the Help menu in Outlook. The problem is that they don't work. Once you get to the mbox folder, the files inside can't be selected because they are greyed out. I reported this issue to Microsoft.

So that i why I am trying to find a way to convert the .mbox files to a format Outlook 2011 can read.

I would rather not have to spend $30 on Emailchemy, so if someone knows a free option, please post.

Thanks.

I have been running into this for a while, I have been unable to find a free substitute for Emailchemy, I had done a lot of looking before I bought Emailchemy.

You have to set the File Type code of the "mbox" file exported by Mac Mail to TEXT.

Then, when the file dialog box comes up in Outlook 2011, the mbox file will no longer be greyed out and Outlook will be able to import it. No conversion program is needed. Programs like FileType and Quick Change can do File type change. Changing the "Open with:" Application in the Finder did not work for me, I had to change the File Type code. (Worked on Mountain Lion + Apple Mail + Outlook 2011)

If you are working in an exchange hosted environment there is a simple (if sometimes time consuming) way to migrate files from outlook 2011 to macmail and back. Create a new exchange hosted account in MacMail. Once that is complete, you can drag and drop files and folders wherever you want and they will propogate across both your MacMail and Outlook 2011 enviroments.
