When you open your iPad Mail icon, you see Mailboxes. On the top are Inboxes and then below are Accounts. Click on your mail server in Accounts and that's where you'll find your trashbox. You can then delete all the messages you sent to your trashbox.

There is no trash.
Once a file is deleted it is gone.
Not trying to dispute you Jonathan, but when I delete a message, it is still in my trash folder until I delete messages from the trash folder. The instructions I gave the OP will lead her to her trash folder, where she can permanently delete any message she sent there.
It's impossible to delete photos directly from the iPad. You can only do that by syncing with iTunes.
It's not like Windows or Mac where you have the Recyle Bin or Trash.

I just came back because it dawned on me she returned and said she moved a picture to trash. The original question was asked about moving a file to trash and my first thought was mail. Duh, it's almost midnight and I need to shut down and go to bed. Sorry.......

Because as Jonathon mentioned, once a photo is deleted is it gone. You cannot recover it.

Incorrect. Photos taken with the iPad2 can be deleted directly from the iPad without iTunes. This is clearly what the OP was referring to.
