HP Photosmart 7350 Printer

Anyone get an HP 7350 Photosmart Printer to work with the new iMacs. After working with both HP and Apple support it seems hopeless.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I was also able to get my HP Photosmart 7350 to work with this method (and a few extra steps). However, while I can print, I cannot change color, quality, or other settings.

Here is the method I pulled from a few different sources:
1) Unplug printer
2) Download the latest HP Photosmart 7350 package (ver 2.5.6 as of 05/04/06) from:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=7288 6&dlc=en&os=219
3) Set Print Setup Utility to "Open Using Rosetta"
3.1) Go to MacHD\Applications\Utilities\Printer Setup Utility and "Get Info"
3.2) Check the "Open Using Rosetta" box
3.3) Close the window
4) Run the HP Uninstaller (in MacHD\Applications\HP)
5) Delete the Library\Printers\HP directory
6) Restart
7) Run HP Installer from above
7.1) Select Photosmart 7350
7.2) Perform Easy Install
7.3) Launch HP Setup Assistant when prompted
8) Plug in printer when prompted by HP Setup Assistant and hit "Next"
10) Launch Printer Setup Utility
11) Select your HP Photosmart 7350 and *ignore the other drop-downs*
12) At the bottom of the Printer Setup Utility, click on "More Printers"
13) Select hp photosmart in the top drop-down
14) Select your printer and click "Add"

Well, after days of trying and downloading special drivers from LinuxPrinting & Gimp-Print etc.. I finally called Apple Support who reported the Photosmart 7350 is not compatible with Tiger.

I ended up purchasing a HP Photosmart 8450 (Macworld rated 4 1/2 mice & Consumer Reports rated a Quick Pick # 6). The reviews listed it as a $250.00 printer, Staples had them for $116.00.

Only problem with the 8450 is that the driver supplied is no good with Tiger. A 128 MB download is required from the HP's website. I haven't tried the 8450 with airport yet, I'm just happy to have a working printer again. I'll try it with airport sometime in the future but I'm tired of dealing with printing issues at the moment. Ultimately my 7350 was re-tasked to a Win XP machine.

In summary, It would appear the 7350 would not work on any machine that is running Tiger.

I received some helpful feedback from Apple Support, thanks to tech support representative Jake via Apple Chat.

According to Jake:
So it looks like you're not the only one with this issue. It looks like the print engine on your computer my have some trouble with the driver as it is - written for a Motorolla processor. What I would suggest doing at this point would be seeing if HP has any updated drivers that you can install, or seeing if the Gimp-print drivers would work better.

...

Gimp-Print drivers are a collection of open source drivers that are included with Mac OS X to use incase the manufacturer doesn't have a set of drivers for your printer in Mac OS X. I'll send you an article about a Lexmark printer and how to change its drivers to the Gimp-Print version. You can substitute the Lexmark printer in the article for HP and it should be the same.
Following the steps in the article (but selecting my own printer's Gimp version) worked like a charm. I hope it'll help you, too!

Yes, I got my HP 7350 to work with my Intel MacBookPro in MacOS 10.4.6. Problem is, I'm not exactly sure how. I will try to reconstruct the steps I took to make it work:

1)Download most recent HP 7350 Photosmart package from HP.com. This file should be around 75MB and I think it contains the 2.5.3 driver. Do an "easy install"

2)Go to Applications->Utilities.

3)Click on "Printer Setup Utility", then click "File" and "Get Info" in the menu.

4)Open the "General" settings, and check the "Open Using Rosetta" box. Close the window.

5)Open the Printer Setup Utility. Click on "Add Printer".

6)Connect your printer to the computer.

7)Select Photosmart 7350, then click on "More Printers"

8)Click on the drop-down menu at the top, and select HP Photosmart. Click Add.

If these instructions do not work, feel free to reboot, try again, change the order, and add or remove steps as needed. Then please repost instructions that are correct 🙂

It took me several attempts to make this finally work, but I can now remove and install the printer ever time.

Best of luck to you!

After too many hours of searching, reading, and trying I have finally found out how to get the Photosmart 7350 to work on the Intel Mac.

1. Uninstall all HP Software (it simply won't work, for me anyway)
2. Select the HP Deskjet 900 series Gimp-Print... found in the drop down menu under HP.
3. Print

There are no options for printing (draft, colour, etc), but it is certainly better than no printing at all.

I used this method as described. Tried a few times, nothing works. It prints the first 1/2 inch of a 4x6 photo very well, leaves the remaining 5.5" blank, then prints another 1/2 inch on another sheet that may be the next segment, but the colors are very wacky and distorted. Any other suggestions?

Here is the method I pulled from a few different

People, Evidently, there is a problem with printing on an Intel Mac that has nothing to do with the OS and Tiger compatibility and I do not know when Apple is going to acknowledge this instead of having people buy new printers.

I have the same OS 10.4.4 on my G4, G5 and Intel. My G4 and G5 print to my HP SmartPhoto 7550 falwlessly using the HP drivers for Tiger but my iMac Intel does not. The drivers from HP installs fine and my Intel machine, iMac Intel sees the printer in the printer browser when I try to add a printer but the driver cannot does not show up as an option to be selected like I can on G4 and G5.

You know that even though the OSX says it is Tiger 10.4.4 on both the PPC and the Intel, the OSX is not really the same. It looks like Printer Drivers are different (different list on both); Email version is different (PPC is version 2.0.5 and Intel is 2.0.6 and many other little difference. Very minor little differences but it is causing me big headache with printing and I am not about to replace a good working printer with something else. Common Apple, please do something about this issue.

I have had bad luck with my HP photosmart 7550 printer and Mac OS X in general. Everytime they update OS X it breaks the driver and it takes HP weeks to release a fix. When I ordered the iMac I took the opportunity to replace my HP printer with a Canon. I would have faith that it will work eventually, but it might take them a month or more to release drivers. Hopefully someone on this site finds a temporary solution to fix your problem. Good luck!

Exactly my experience, TeeGate, except that I'm using an HP DeskJet 845c.

The 845c worked without a hitch on my Power Mac G4 MDD and 20-inch iMac G5. But on the new iMac, it's only printing about one inch before spitting out the first page and continuing to print on the next.

The quality of the print is also a problem. The fonts are completely incorrect (they look like they might be default HP fonts?) and the print itself is grainy and distorted.

Wow..interesting topic,
I have had a 7350 for sometime, first on a g4 800 imac with Tiger...and always had issues with it 'forgetting where the driver was..I was contantly uploading the driver...
I recently stepped into Mactel 20"..and did a migration...and knock on wood...the 7350/mactel is working the best it ever has!
go figure...

now if I could figure out why the mactel freeze up when I go to use the mouse every once and while I'd be set.
