Final cut pro x doesn't load projects on external hard drive

I have installed Final Cut Pro x. I save all of my projects on my external hard drive, and suddenly it has stopped working.

I load FCP and it displays, in the project library all of my projects on my external hard drive, and then dissappears! 😕

I have lots of projects and am really annoyed that I can't use them any more. I would really appreciate all of your help 🙂

It starts loading, and displays this

User uploaded file

My external hard drive is called Ralph docs. It is still loading the window.

Then the external hard drive disappears from the project library...

Then it disappears from the event library. 😠

I tried going into the external hard drive directly and opening the project from there... Nothing happens. I can play it if I do that, but not edit it in the magnetic timeline.

😢

Please help me! I have even reinstalled FCP twice but nothing.

FCP X does seem to have a problem when too many Events and media is in the Library. I reccommend one of three things.

First, you can get "Event Manager X" to take some of them "offline" temporarily when you're not using them.

http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/EventManagerX/

Or you can cretae Disk Images to put stuff in for specific clients or whatever, and only mount the .dmg when you need access to those Events and Projects.

http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/fcp_x_managing_disk_image_martin.html

Finally, I recommend you create folders in the Project Library, and start putting projects in them, and closing them. That way, the Project Library won't try loading data from all the projects at once. If it's not in a folder, or if the folder is open, FCP X will load up all the data for all the Projects it can see and can be overwhelmed pretty easily.

One thing to check if you are having problems of external disk not showing up in FCPX, is the disk permissions. Ctrl-click the hd icon on desktop to bring up context menu and select 'get info'. Make sure that on the bottom of the info window you have the 'Ignore ownership on this volume' selected. If FCPX can't write to disk, it wont show it.

Please help!

Because of the lack of free space on disk, i deleted few videos in finder.

Usually final cut show the changes of sources with exclamation mark, and then you can relink missing file..

but now three days ago it just crashed..

I tried to do so many things but now, every time i open it again, it doesnt let me even to work in it..

There is this little colored circle all the time!

Even i..

- put the material back in folder

- put the event out a Final cut event folder

- put event back

- reinstal Final Cut..

The main problem is in the event.. two days ago when i open it it stars to loading poject, so i let it loading for 20 hours, but it wasn start working..

The most scared things is that even i put every event and project out from final cut folders.. The fcp still loading with colored circle (even there is some new project with new event!)

I know it was stupid to delete files! but i have so many of it duplicated in reference folder, that i didnt know which are in use and which not..

I can even relink material cause final cut dont let me..

Please help! Now i cant even start a new project!

Check before if you can put it out, otherwise make a copy in this folder and try with it. and meaby you can hide original file with Project Manager? Good luck!

Hi Tom,

I've seen that you have helped a number of people with this issue but I have not yet been able to resolve mine.

here are screen shots of my root level and Hardrive info. My hardrive is recognised as a device not a camera but will not load projects or events. I recently filled my MAC HD and transfered all of my movie files to my HD to free up some room but now I cant access my old work on FCPX

Someone please help.
