I just got my new computer all up and running, but when I hook my soundsticks up, I get no sound out of them. They show up in system preferences fine, but when I click on them, no sound. What is even stranger is that when I select them, iTunes stops playing completely. DVD player stutters and comes to a halt too. I am not sure if this is an intel problem, or simply a tiger problem, as both are new to me. Any ideas?
Another person was having problems with iSub so I imagine that it is a problem with the built in drivers in the OS. Unfortunately, HK never created drivers for the soundsticks, support was always built in to the OS.
Alec the assumption has to be if they show up in the sound preferences then they will in audio set up, if they don't show up then they won't show up in audio set up.
I opend the utility Audio-Midi-Config and choose the sound sticks amnually. That works. But when my mac wakes up after sleep, I have to un- and replug the sound sticks. I even have to do that, when I use iTunes Store. It's pretty annoying. But better than before.
USB Soundsticks, iMac Core Duo 17" OSX 10.4.5. No problems with the Soundsticks. If you still have an issue after a reinstall of OSX then there are 2 possibles causes:
1) Your iMac is faulty
2) Your Soundsticks are faulty.
Reading what was posted. I've come to the same conclusion, When I first got my iMac it had 10.4.4 build 71. Hooked the Sound Sticks (1st Gen) up and everything work fine. Later tried to install the driver for an HP PhotoSmart 1215 from HP did not work. Found out that the Sound Sticks would not work. Called Apple switch USB Ports, Reset PRAM, Reset SMU, ran Hardware Test, checked Sys Pref, Audio Mini Setup, Dump Cache, Work intermittenly, Now no sound at all,
Have not attemped to remove Driver for Printer, but now suspect that the driver is the problem. Well tried when I get home.
Hmm. I have installed the driver fot my hp 2410 - may be that's the problem. But I will wait til I have spoken to Apple again on tuesday. I will post any results.
Meanwhile the soundstickissue got really wired. When I play a trailer in Quicktime Ihave to unpiug/plug the soundsticks to hear sound. But it's not synchronously. May be, because QT - other than iTunes - doesn't stop, when soundless soundsticks are plugged in.
Sure the printer-driver was the problem: I got rid of it - I just deinstalled software and driver of my hp psc 2400 allinone. Now the sound sticks are working fine again. But the volume control from my wireless keyboard won't. They still work with the internel sound.
I have a new imac with the Intel Duo. When I lauch itunes, I get no sound at all and it appears itunes is now running correctly as the scroll bar displays the selected song, but is not moving.
If I unplug my soundsticks, the internal speakers work. When I plug the soundsticks back in, they work fine.
If I close itunes and then restart itunes, I have to go through the same drill. Unplug soundsticks and replug.
Just want to report I experienced the same problem with my USB Soundsticks when I upgraded from a PowerBook G4 to a MacBook Pro. I know the Soundsticks aren't faulty. They still work fine with my older Macs. Not sure whether this is Soundstick specific, or whether there are broader issues with USB devices on these Intel Dual Core Macs.
