Saving photos from a Nikon DSLR camera directly to an iPad 2

I'm thinking of purchasing an iPad 2 but only if I can "download" photos directly from my camera to the iPad without having to use my Macbook.

Can the iPad recognize RAW photos?

Thanks,

Lisa

You can use the Camera Connection kit, which I do and I have a Nikon D5100, but I have only been able to transfer JPEG pics directly to my iPad via the iPad Camera Connection kit. From my experience, Raw files will not transfer correctly (in full resolution) to your iPad. They will transfer, but in thumbnail........JPEGs transfer completely, and in full resolution.......

The iPad will load what the camera supplies. Usually this will be RAW files (e.g., .nef, .cr2, etc.) and/or JPEG files. The Photo App will create 2048 x 1360 JPEG versions of RAW files (or large camera JPEG files) that come from the camera. These JPEGs are used to display the photos on the iPad. If the iPad is connected to a computer it will appear as a camera and the unaltered files (RAW + camera JPEG) can be uploaded as if from the original camera source.
