iMovie 6 and Quartz Composer

When I use Quartz Composer on a clip and apply, the image goes white. What am I doing wrong?

G4 Dual 1.25, Ram 1.25gig, Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Matt,
Sorry I'm not very clear.

This only happens in Quartz Composer.

In Preview, I only see the full effect (example Bloom etc.). When I set the effect in and the effect out times, I don't see the effect coming in or going out in Preview.

I can't render any of the Quartz composer effects. I can render all other effects.

I hope this is a little more clear.

Jim,

I don't think the in out sliders have any effect on the preview Quartz Composer effects. At least they don't for me.

When you say you "can't render the effects" you mean you click Apply and nothing happens?

Is your project on an external drive?

Matt,
All files and iMovie is on my internal drive.

When I say it won't render Quartz Composer effects, when I apply the effect, the image goes white.

hi friends,
i`ve the same problem.when i try to use a quartz composer FX in imovie 6 i get only a white clip.the audio from the clip will be ok.it doesn`t matter if i change some parameters (slider) from the FXs-all the quartz comp. FX doesn`t work.
also i get a white clip in the preview in imovie 6.

in dashboard or so i can see the quartz effects (ripples) so my system should
support quartz !!!
when i open the FX directly with QT 7.0.4 (imovie6/Contents/Resources) they are all only white.when i open other .qtz files they show something.

another question:
which build do you have from imovie ??get the about-info in imovie and it showes the build nr.

Yes, 233 here as well.

For the record, I have the nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 video card.

Unfortunately, iMovie has exhibited this behavior since at least version 4: it runs perfectly fine for some people, and poorly for others, even given similar hardware and software.

so we hope to get a update which kill the bugs-and there are many bugs in ilife 6 !!!!!!!!

It appears the last post about the Quartz issue was 1/31/06. Nothing has improved since then? I too get a white screen when the Quartz Composer effects are applied - but can see them in preview mode just fine.

If the Quartz Composer doesn't work, then why hasn't it been removed from the program????? Fix it or remove it!

Hello All,
Success with Quartz Composer...

I finaly got fed up and re-installed Quicktime 7.04 Pro and then my iLife 6 disc. I then re-installed all the iLife updates...

Quartz Composer seems to be working now... My video card is ATI 9000 pro and does not support core image but does support Quartz Extreme... With these results, I find that Core Image has nothing to do with it at all... There must have been something corrupted or missing not allowing Quartz Composer to operate properly

Hello All,
I thought all was well after re-installing iLife 6 software... It worked all afternoon and then disaster struct, it stop working tonight... There has to be a bug in iMovie.

I wonder if my problem is similar... I upgraded to Tiger and the latest version of iLife, but after using it once or twice, the Quartz effects stopped working. From what I have read, my card GeForce 5200 shouldn't even be compatible, but when I did another software update, it worked again! I even made a complete project, rendered and burned to DVD. Quartz just started working. Unfortunately it didn't last. After restarting my computer yesterday it is once again not functioning. Is this similar to what you experienced?

I am having the same problem. From the posts, this appears to have been broken from Day one of the release. Now more than 1 year later and it still does not work. Anyone have any ideas out there? Same problem for me, the Quartz Composer effects work in preview, but when they are applied, the clip goes to white. I have tried everything I can think of, but they just don't work. Pretty sad effort from MAC on this one........
