Why won't Apple bring back "Save As" since "Duplicate" clearly *****?

I think the question speaks for itself.

Happily, we are in a world where business is free.

Apple is perfectly free to make the choices which they want.

As far as I know, they didn't ask users's permission when they decided to drop the Xserve.

Listening Steve Jobs during his late keynote I understood that OSX is the operating system for old fashioned machines. The machines to come will be using a synthesis of OSX and iOS.

The fact that we like this evolution or don't like it doesn't matter, it's on the road and we can't stop it.

2. I have no idea what level 45 & 69 have to do with anything.

3. Pages is consumer level software, not sure what that means but I agree, it's a toy.

(1) you understood well

(2) I already explained that I erroneously used "level" for "floor"

(3) Pages is in the same category than iLife, iPhoto, iDvd.

They fit the needs of more than 80% of the potential users and it is a huge target.

If you want more features, use pro apps. The choice is large but the prices are high.

Is it so difficult to understand that most users don't need to get a Ferrari?

For many of them, a Smart is sufficient.

I posted many times a script changing Pages behavior so that it no longer work as a .doc viewer but as a .doc editor.

As every doc issued from M…oSoft product is automatically moved to my trash, I have no need for it so I don't know the way it behave under Lion.

After I posted I figured 45 & 69 out, I realised it was obvious and the misunderstanding was mine so I left it as-was.

Are you really thinking that repeating : "give us our dear Save As" will change something ?

Is it so difficult to understand that Apple decide what to do with their products and decide when they will apply their choices ? If you have any doubt, read or re-read the license delivered with every Apple software.

We have only one right : give money to be allowed to use the software which remains their property.

They may change the apps when they want (they already did that)

They may drop the apps when they want (they already did that)

They may drop machines when they want (they already did that).

Don't hope that I will rant against that. Free enterprise means something.

Like the rocket Saturn, Apple climb higher and higher dropping useless stages.

Remember,

when they thought that they may make money with that, they made digital camera then dropped them.

when they thought that they may make money with that, they made printers then dropped them.

when they thought that they may make money with that, they made Xserve then dropped them.

Don't dream, the day they will decide that the mac are no longer getting sufficient cash, they will drop them.

IBM dropped the PCs,

HP announced quite the same decision …

From my point of view, it's important to know what is really a company. It's a machine to grab cash, no less, no more.

I'm more than 67 years old and I'm quite sure that I will see the extinction of the macintosh as well as I read descriptions of dinosaurus extinction.

It's life.

Wow- I was thinking maybe 16-18.

One more time you were thinking wrongly 😉

Once I thought that users may push Apple to change their decision.

I was wrong.

Now, I know that when they make a choice, it's not to move back two months later.

I don't live in a cloud. I have my two feet on earth and I don't believe "aux lendemains qui chantent".

Just to "ni dieu ni maître"

I, too, do not like autosave. I work in Keynote and usually import a lot of videos and the file size can be around 2gb. Autosave slows me way down. Some autosaves take up to 2 minutes. Also, when I run the presentation, Keynote will keep autosaving if it still has me in "edited" mode. The slideshow will freeze while it autosaves. Not ideal when you are presenting to a large audience.

Please, please make autosave a preference you can turn off. Us professional users can do our own version control without Apple's help thank you.

I just want "Save as". I liked it. I like having control of what I am doing. If I wanted the computer to **** me off I would use Windows Vista. If I use duplicate I just have another one of what i have with the same name. I want different hence the "Save as" direction of my thoughts. who would have thought such a stink it would cause in a forum. Hey Robert I'm with ya.
