hmmm im afraid there are only about 8 i tunes in my recycle bin...

5640 sounds about right.

shall i use File > Add Folder to Library > Select iTunes Media and add them all back in from itunes on ext HD?

No silver bullet I'm afraid. I guess you can import everything, run the Duplicate Song & Artist script, sort on date added and cream off the top...

At a guess it will be Option instead of Shift on a Mac. My scripts are for Windows, for Mac try Dupin or Dupin Lite from Doug's Scripts.
