What is the "other" on my storage?

Hi!

I recently got my MacBook Air, and I'm pretty new to all this stuff. So please bear with me 🙂

I got the MBA abotu 3 weeks ago and I haven't downloaded much on it. I've downloaded Skype, Messenger, Pages, and a couple games.

I went to go check out how much storage I have left in general and I see that "Other" on my MBA takes up 12.62gb!

I am wondering what this "other" could possibly be! And why is it taking so much of my storage. I know that the software or whatever takes up about 6gb but that's already accounted for because my storage says ____/59.81gb. Can someone please help me with this? and how can i get rid of whatever is taking so much space in this "other" section of storage.

Watch out for the cloud if your not responsable it can take over your drives. Make sure not to download to much at a time. Other things include iphone backups, and networking. For instance Icloud will double every thing on Ical ,Safari and more. I personally don't think that the kinks are worked out. Or there just trying to sell space.
