How do I use disk utility to scan my computer for problems?

First note that this discussion is four years old, so almost nobody is still monitoring it and most of the information here is stale (out-of-date).

Since you haven't told us what type of problem you are experiencing, it's not possible to explain how Disk Utility will be able to find it and since you appear to be running two different versions of OS X on two different MBP's, according to your profile, that means you have two different version of Disk Utility which are markedly different from each other in form an function.

The way this Forum works best is if you start a new discussion by describing in great detail, what problems you are experiencing and include the platform model and software versions you are having issues with. That will attract far more troubleshooters familiar with your specific issues faster.

you are absolutely right...should have read your post before confirming a purchase in Oct. The program is like a drug, forcing you to use as it slows my Mac badly, so badly, that I thought having Mackeeper will resolve...which it did. Then one day, the Mackeeper just disappear from my Mac and it's back to normal. Had tried to delete, but it was difficult...Again, how and why did Apple allow such program to be offer in the store????

It only allowed the 911 version in the App Store for a very short time many years ago. Because of App Store restrictions, it wasn't capable of doing much and severed more as an ad to upgrade to the paid version. Advertising has always been their strong suit, as opposed to actually being useful at doing anything for the user.

I tried it for a fix of Firefox's sudden inability to remember prior email addresses. I dealt with a very pleasant gentleman in "Easter Europe" who spoke excellent English and said he had spent 18 months in the Bay Area. I cautioned him not to charge me any more than this call, $14.95. He agreed. Then I received my credit card bill and he also charged my credit card $149.00. I called the company that handles the billing, which is a separate company in Chicago at 800-799-9570. The customer service person was very friendly and removed not only the $149.00 charge but also the future monthly charge of $14.95 for all future months. I never agreed to have a monthly charge from MacKeeper and I was very specific in telling the fellow I talked to from Eastern Europe that I was a one and done customer. He tried to talk me into using it for one month at no additional charge and I declined that proposal, but he did it anyway. Thus my clarity of the scope of what I needed was agreed to verbally but obviously was not complied with by MacKeeper. The wrongful charges were immediately reversed by the Chicago company. I did not have to say much to get the reversal of charge which leads me to believe that they get calls like mine about MacKeeper frequently.

Oh, by the way, the fellow in Eastern Europe did not fix the problem I have with Firefox's ability to remember prior email addresses. So the whole thing was a failure. I also had an Apple trained technician come to the iMac and she could not get the function to work on Firefox. So I switched to Chrome, which is faster anyway.

My conclusion is that MacKeeper is a treacherous company to deal with and I now have fears that my financial information and credit card are not secure. Who could blame me for having such apprehension given what has occurred.
