How to configure FX DocuCentre-II C3000 printer on MacBook Air with OS X (10.7)?

I have purchased MacBook Air with Lion X OS (V 10.7) and now trying to configure the FX DocuCentre-II C3000 printer on this.

All other users in my office domain are using workstations with Windows O/S and my laptop is not configured to be part of the domain, yet I get conencted to the network and obtain full use of all network resources including access to some shared folders onthe domain using "Connect To Server".

For printer config, I downloaded "Mac OS X 10.5 / 10.6 Driver" released on 01/10/2009, from Fuji Xerox's Support / Download Centre and installed the same to configure the printer to be an LPD using local IP. This has brought me in the print config page (where I can check it to be duplex etc) and instalation was successfull.

However when I submit for any printout (an Excel I tried) the job disappears from the Print Job Q after spooling and I'm not getting the printout.

The job status on FX DocuCentre-II C3000 reveals that a job submitted from my work station (it identifies correctly) is completed with error (as such pages 0/0) having 016-757 as status.

Anyone knows a solution that can resloves this issue? And consider me as dummy when it comes to MAC as I ahve been in and around windows O/S for the last 15 Years.

Thanks in advance, dudes.

Mac OS X (10.7.1), FX DocuCentre-II C3000

On first read of your post, I think you could have one of three causes.

The first is that often an LPD queue requires a specific queue name. If you were to check the port setting on one of the Windows clients, you would see what the queue name is; although I would expect that the PC's will be using "RAW Port 9100" instead of LPR. If they are using Port 9100 then you can use the same protocol on the Mac. Via Print & Fax, select to add another print queue but this time select IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket, which is Apple's name for Port 9100.

If using HP Jetdirect still causes the same error then it could be some form of job management enabled in the copier. Many colour devices often have the ability to control access to the printing or copying via an iD and password. If such a setting exists on the C3000 and it is enabled then you may need to check the menus within the C3000 Mac driver for a field where you can enter an ID and password.

If no job management is enabled then the last suggestion would be the supported printer language. For some office copiers, Postscript is now an option rather than a standard inclusion. If the driver you downloaded is Postscript but the copier does not support this printer language, then this will result in the job vanishing and possibly that error code you mention, which may be along the lines of incorrect printer description language (PDL). Again you could check one of the Windows to see what printer driver they are using. If it is PCL then this may confirm this thought. But to be sure, I suggest you get a configuration page from the copier. This should show what printer languages it supports. If there is no Postscript support, then you would need to look at using the pxlmono package, which supports colour printing. Note that the built-in Generic PCL Laser driver in Lion only supports b&w printing.

Thanks buddy, your attempt was genuine and the asnwer was in detail, yet it hasn't helped me resloving the issue completely.

Apologies for not mentioning in my original post, the exisiting setup uses LPD with print queue and not Raw Port 9100 and I have used teh same queue name in my config.

So that eliminates my attempt to try option 2 as well.

Obvioulsy option 3 coudl be the possible cause/solution as windows is using PCL driver. However PXLMONO neither has a Driver for Lion (only upto Snow Leopord) nor the one for 10.6 supports FX DocuCentre-II C3000.

Please advice if there is any other solution. in the menatime I'll continue with my learning / experimenting.

Thanks for the update. So it would appear that the C3000 does only have PCL. You could test to be sure using the Generic PCL Laser driver included with Lion. While it does only print in b&w, if it does print then at least you know that you have a workaround of sorts.

Apologies also re pxlmono - I did not check if Lion was supported. But I thought there was a generic pxlcolor driver available, rather than a specific model ppd.

I have problem connecting to FX DocuCentre-II C3000 at work.

I connect to the printer using IP>LPD and typed the printer's IP Address.

I tried using Generic PCL driver as well as the latest driver given by FujiXerox but keep getting the error message "The optical photoconductor needs to be replaced" on the printer's queue. On the printer's job status, it showed "Error" and my computer name.

This printer is networked in a windows environment and is functioning normally on all other PCs.

I also tried connecting using HP Jetdirect - Socket. When i tried to print, it says "Connected" on my printer queue, but "Error" and my computer's IP address on the printer's job status.

I have deleted and added the printer numerous times. What should I do?

Thank you Matt

I tried to download the PXLMONO package you suggested but the site is offline for maintenance from several days and I really need to print in color in my new office.

Is there any other site where I can find those packages?

I've written a solution to this here. You can still download the proper PPD file onto a pre-lion computer, install the driver, then copy the driver across to a Lion computer.

If you use " JetDirect" instead of "IPP" printing it works a lot better, but just a caution from the Xerox side JetDirect is called Port 9100 not JetDirect.

Thank you for sending me the files. Today the openprinting.org site is still not available for maintenance 😟.

I would like to inform that I was able to print on a Infotec MP C2550 PXL configuring it as IP printing using the HP Jetdirect - socket.

The Printer Set Up Instructions on this page are, in my modest opinion, not clear enough and do not works.
