MBP 13" Medio 2010 Lion - Graphics problem

Hello everyone,

I am using a Macbook Pro Medio 2010 with the latest version of Lion at the moment. The video card that is included is the NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB... Anyways, since my update to Lion (and also reinstalled it) I'm having bad graphic issues... Games are glitched, freezing and such and video playback on different websites show me blocky/bugged video's. Here are some screens of the issue.

I'm not sure if the problem lies with my Lion installation, or my Graphics card died at the same time when installing Lion... Could someone help me out what to do here? Not sure if I have to send my MBP to repair or just fix it by waiting for a Lion update or downgrade to Snow Leopard.

Thanks in advance!

Steve,

Yes, still getting them. I've tried eveything I can think of including:

  1. Running Apple hardware tests that came on the Applications CD (no issue found)
  2. Running Memtest86+ (no issue found)
  3. PRAM reset (still glitches)
  4. SMC reset (still glitches)
  5. Reverting back to factory-installed RAM sticks (still glitches)
  6. Installing smcFanControl making the lowest fan speed 3000 rpm (still glitches)
  7. Reinstall 8GB Crucial RAM, remove smcFanControl, reset both PRAM and SMC (still glitches)

I've not found any particular pattern to it, neither a sure-fire way to reproduce it nor any way to avoid it. Every now and again, it just happens (once or twice during a full day of use).

If this is true, then it is likely that changes between graphics power management states are the root of the issue.

Disabling Apple Graphics Power Management completely as you have done, will probably mean that you generate more heat in the GPU and have a shorter battery life. I just hope that the extra GPU heat doesn't mean shorter hardware life as well...

Please report back if your glitches come back or if this looks to be a permananent fix.
