Yes it is. But without more details, it is difficult to suggest an upgrade path.

Yes. But you will have to purchase the DVD for what ever version of OS X that you MacBook will support.

From all i've read, there is no single leap to snow leopard from 10.4? Are downloads even available for leopard? My system is starting to slow down and it's either this or a new computer?
You have never answered the question about providing more details so there is no way for us to really help you until you do that.
If your major problem is a slowing down of your Mac there are way of fixing that beside an upgrade to the operating system. In fact some of the problems can in fact actually cause you to have additional problems if you upgrade.

believe me, i've shopped the internet and it appears there is none for" Leopard" and a 10.5 operating system is required to go to Snow Leopard? Mine is a 10.4
Provide details on your hardware and the current state it is in now.

Please tell me what details would be helpful.
I use this computer for writing, email and little else. I am running Office 2008 and the latest version of Firefox.
My problem as of late, is that the "hourglass wheel?" keeps popping up and there are long delays when I'm moving from program to program or saving content.

What is the size of your disk?
How much is free?
Do you run Windows? If so how?
How large is your Desktop file?

A couple points: Yes you can upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.6.X (Snow Leopard). Your computer will also handle Lion 10.7. However, upgrading a system that is having issues is usually not a good idea, best to determine problems first. Hard drive full? Hard drive failing? You will also need to add more RAM to run the upgraded OS. Your computer will accept 4 gB of RAM and utilize 3gB

Allan,
Here is where I'm stumped on a Mac. I don't know how to access those things.

You can upgrade from10.4 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 will run under10.6 but you might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... I recently upgraded an older MacBook (1,1) from 10.4 to 10.6 and I'm running 10.6 on my 2.16Ghz model 2,1.
You can order a Snow Leopard10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
A 10.5 Leopard disk will run you over $100
You will probably want to increase your RAM. That would speed things up considerably. You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
For RAM check OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/
Here's instructions on replacing RAM http://homeoffice.consumerelectronicsnet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=44404
Okay, got some info. capacity 148 gb roughly
avail 109 gb roughly
This seems VERY VERY helpful. And once I upgrade ram I can install either snow leapord or Lion without any other upgrades between???
You must install Snow Leopard first in order to get the App Store required to download Lion.
