From all i've read, there is no single leap to snow leopard from 10.4? Are downloads even available for leopard? My system is starting to slow down and it's either this or a new computer?
You have never answered the question about providing more details so there is no way for us to really help you until you do that.
If your major problem is a slowing down of your Mac there are way of fixing that beside an upgrade to the operating system. In fact some of the problems can in fact actually cause you to have additional problems if you upgrade.

believe me, i've shopped the internet and it appears there is none for" Leopard" and a 10.5 operating system is required to go to Snow Leopard? Mine is a 10.4

I use this computer for writing, email and little else. I am running Office 2008 and the latest version of Firefox.
My problem as of late, is that the "hourglass wheel?" keeps popping up and there are long delays when I'm moving from program to program or saving content.

A couple points: Yes you can upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.6.X (Snow Leopard). Your computer will also handle Lion 10.7. However, upgrading a system that is having issues is usually not a good idea, best to determine problems first. Hard drive full? Hard drive failing? You will also need to add more RAM to run the upgraded OS. Your computer will accept 4 gB of RAM and utilize 3gB

You can upgrade from10.4 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 will run under10.6 but you might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... I recently upgraded an older MacBook (1,1) from 10.4 to 10.6 and I'm running 10.6 on my 2.16Ghz model 2,1.

A 10.5 Leopard disk will run you over $100
You will probably want to increase your RAM. That would speed things up considerably. You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier

You must install Snow Leopard first in order to get the App Store required to download Lion.
