Look for your Time Capsule in the "sidebar" of a Finder window. If you see it, select it. You should now see the Time Capsule's "Data" volume (or whatever you named it) in the Finder window. Double-click on the "Data" volume to mount it. Double-click on the "sparsebundle" file to mount it. (It may not open in the same Finder window. If not, check the sidebar for an entry named "Backup of ...", then select it.)

If these steps are successful, launch Disk Utility and do a "Repair Disk operation on the backup volume. If any step fails, report the point when the failure occurred and the exact error message.

Disk utility then hangs when opened as its trying to mount. Without the sparse bundle mounted disk utility operates normally and mounts the iMacs hard drive.

A bit of a quibble, but in that case Disk Utility is not trying to mount the sparse bundle, as it's already mounted. Similarly, if by "the iMac's hard drive" you mean its boot drive, that's also already mounted, so Disk Utility isn't mounting it. It's just showing the volumes that are mounted.

In any case, I don't know why that mounted sparse bundle would be causing Disk Utility to choke. Have you tried waiting for a while to see if it finally responds? Have you launched the Console utility to see if there are any odd messages while this is happening?

Hi

You could go to system preferences - users - login items and try to delete some "apps starting automatically at login", incompatible with 10.7.2

I deleted p.e. "WD Macintosh + Turbo drivers" (it ran automatically at login and it was an old version) and I resolved the problem

I hope I've been helpuf

Since upgrading to Lion - I have been having the same problem. Today I may have found a solution - for Time Machine backup to my Time Capsule (it seems to have worked today and I hope it continues to work.....)

1. Open Airport Utility (located in the utility folder) and select Manual setup for the Time Capsule

2. Go to Disks tab -> File Sharing tab

a. Check Enable file sharing

b. Secured shared disk -> toggle to - With a disk password - the same password you entered in the time machine preference.

I hope it works for you!
