How to stop the wifi pop-up window?

Lion 10.7.1:

When my MBP boots or wakes up, if its in range of a wireless network, I'll get a pop up browser window asking if I want to join it - even if my browser's not running. Being a pop-up, this isn't a full browser window and so doesn't contain my 1Password extension button, so its pretty annoying.

Is there a way to turn this pop-up window off?

Thx

Nope. That's not the same thing. That function is concerned with networks you've never previously connected to before and whether the OS should get your authorisation before connecting.

Captive network assistant is a different thing altogether.

@Manuel

Just rename the app as I detailed above. The only pain with this solution is that you have to do it again each time you update or upgrade your version of OS X.

As of June 2016, I found that the problem is that someone else's xfinity wifi is popping up. Since I could not change the XCaptive Network Assistant.app file name, I had to find another solution. It's actually very simple:

Go to Open Network Preferences and in Network Name box, select your modem name located on your wifi modem. Then click on Advanced, delete the xfinity wifi and select your modem once again. Check the Remember networks this computer has joined box. Click okay.

This worked for me and I hope it works for you as well.
