Magic Mouse will not track

My mouse has stopped tracking, however scrolling and the right and left buttons still function.

Has any one encountered this and how was the problem resolved?

This is a premature reply: Many people suggested different suggestions, there could be many different issues cause this problem. I got the same problem while I was browsing for the answer, I cleaned the mouse with high pressure air(for a minute) and it started working again. I'm not sure how long it is going to work though and not 100% sure cleaning actually solved problem but worth try.

Here's what seemed to work for me.

I threw the following preference file from my user library into the trash.

go to: users/user (e.g. thorsten)/library/preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist (this is the file you have to delete). Of course you will have to make the (hidden) library folder in your "home" folder visible first.

Turned bluetooth off, restarted the computer and zapped the pram on restart. command, option p & r held down, and wait for the second start up sound.

re paired the mouse and it was working fine again.

Hope this helps

Hello usernameNL,

I've the same issues reported by everyone. I've already tried clean out the lenses, to change the batteries, the mini brackets to avoid the gaps of the poles of batteries with the case, and also I've tried different surfaces, but the tracking just not works. The superior part works fine. All gestures and clicks!!! Is there any option that I've missed to check? What I have to do else?

In your specific case, is there any bluetooth device near to MM to do this? In here, I've the wireless apple keyboard. But interferences with the same brand (apple), definetely doesn't make any sense.

So...very suitable with it's name, Apple Magic Mouse and that's the magic.

It's weird..very weird i think.

I have same problem and i've tried so many things like replacing battery, clean the batt contacts, delete file in library but not extremely such tear it down or something.

In the end of struggle and begin to feel frustrated, i try to spot my phone's led flash to mouse's lens and guess what...the pointer is moving!

Maybe it caused by battery replacement (i've replaced the default energizer batt with low quality ones)

Hope this can help somebody who had a same problem..
