FCX Wont recognize plugged in external Hard Drives! what tha?

So after watching all of the tutorials about importing and managing media I am still having issues with FinalCutX recognizing mounted hard drives. When plugged in they clearly show up on my desktop and all of my files are accessable, how ever when trying to import new clips into events it will not give me the option to select other plugged in hard drives. (like they don't even show up) The worst part is that its inconsistant. Sometimes one of the hard drives might show up but the other wont. or none but my cpu's hard drive will show up. Please help thank you.

Its a Sony Ex3. What i have are BPAV folders that aren't recognized as cameras. so I assume HD?

That's XDCAM. Have you downloaded the Sony software?

It seems to be an important issue: do not copy camera folders on the same HDD where you have your Final Cut Events folder.

I have very recently joined up in this forum and find it to be a very lively and informative one.

I am very new to Macs and very new to FCPX and am filled with a zeal to provide video content to my audio albums. I am taking my initial steps in this field and have been trying to follow threads which I feel I should learn more about.
