password on macbook pro lion

i just bought a macbook pro i7 (lion). put in a password at the start, deided i was the only person who was going to use the macbook, removed the password by simply deleting it in system (?). now my laptop refuses any password when i switch it on. the one i put in at first does not work, no password at all dos not work. the suggstion given is "you can use <apple ID to get your password". the problem is i did not register my laptop with apple before removing my password, i was so eager to play with it. i also bought the apple care pack, and have not even opened the pack yet. i talked to an expert, who said i should re-install the system over the internet, which i did, but there was no difference in the end: same window with my name and the password box, that does not accept anything. who can help? (i am using another laptop to ask this question)

If there is an Apple Store nearby, you may want to walk it into that shop and ask for assistance there...they will be happy to help with all your questions and I suspect you'll have more by then 🙂

That is strange. Reboot again and instead of press and hold Option key, press and hold the "Command" and "R" at the same time. You should also go back to the recovery partition. Without selecting anything, at the top menu you should be able to see Utitlies.

The menu bar should reflect "MAC OS X Utilities Files Edit Utilities Window"

Select "Utilities", it will expand to show Firmware Password Utility, Network Utility and Terminal.
