"Star Walk" Alerts won't stop
Hi,
I am an iPhone 4 user with the latest OS (4.3.5 (8L1)). I downloaded the "Star Walk" app recently and decided the "Picture of the day" notification (which I believe to be a push notification) was not required by me. So, I read the help which said I simply need to go to General Settings -> Notifications -> Star Walk -> Alerts and switch it off. I did this, but I still receive a daily notification from them.
I decided this was likely a bug in the app, so I contacted them and they told me their app was working fine and it was a problem with the OS. However, if this were true then there'd be loads of people complaining about this on lots of apps. Funny that I can't find a single reference on line to anyone having this trouble with any app. As a software developer myself I see this mechnism working one of three ways.
1) This on/off is pushed back to a "push" server which decides whether or not to push the notification to each user. This seems really impractical.
2) This on/off is used by the OS to decide whether or not to pass the notification to the app.
3) This on/off is used by the app to decide whether or not to ignore the notification.
The vendor is arguing that the system works as in 2), but it seems to me that it actually works as in 3) and it is their problem.
Has anyone else got this problem? or does anyone know which way these notifications work, so I can chase it with the appropriate vendor?
Rgds
