I just met with Emagic developers--they care for us.

Folks, I just got back from the Los Angeles Logic User's Group meeting and was very impressed and moved by the representatives from Emagic, now working for Apple.

I especially was moved by Manfred Knauff, Engineering Product Manager, an extraordinarily intelligent, deep, compassionate man, who says he reads the forums. SO OUR FEEDBACK HELPS.

I could empathize with him and the developers: they have an enormous list of feature requests coming from every angle, each person’s request seeming to be the most important to them, emphasized by some egos in the audience hogging the stage.

At the start of the meeting there was a rule for no complaining and no asking about future fixes, feature additions by a rep of the users group. But at the end they opened an invitation for feature/future requests. I mentioned how I love Score (my area of interest) and “would like to see it go further.” Manfred was keenly aware of this—in fact is helping in the development of Score—and insinuated that good things are to come.

But now I see that it is a process that takes time, based on the resources available. For example, take Ultrabeat. Created by the ingenious Steffen Gehring was beta tested by only a handful of people.

Another “God of Logic” was Steffan Diedrichsen, who created such plug-ins as EVP88, EVB3, Space Designer, ES1, ES2 and others. He was clearly a clever individual to come up with these programs, but I was also struck by how much he cared about the quality and soul of the final sound. He’s a jazz musician and loves music.

Let me emphasize again that the Emagic guys are smart, humorous, and care about Logic. They are doing the best that they can.

William,

The developers from emagic that work for Apple may just be the people to help me! If they truly are caring, and they are obviously amazingly talented, would they be willing to help me register my Logic Pro 6 application? I am the one who began using it (6.4.1) for several months, and then this last Saturday it crashed. When I tried to open it, it would open and then close within a few seconds. I finally realized it was due to a 'preference' corruption, but not before I threw the application into the trash and re-installed it. How can I get the access code? I have the XSKey that is printed in the backside of the cover of my manual, but it's not enough.

People were interested in the same things voiced in this forum, but not from a position of a complaint, rather wanting new features. Live performance features, Score, Digidesign compatability in the future...a general hodgepodge of requests showing how we all use it in a unique way.

Logic is a vast and versatile system. I have a totally fresh appreciation for the amount of effort, genius, and care that went into all the plugins and into Logic in general.

Thanks alot William Levine

how come there is no Moderator under your name

we've been waiting to hear some insights about this things for along time, just that calms a persons heart down enough to be able to go to sleep knowing he is not waiting money but but investing money in something thats gonna be there along time and more better than it is right now

although you haven't said much about what went on exactly but thats enough for most of us users in this forum with frustrations

thanks again

ditto stash.

great stuff william - i am overjoyed to hear that score is being looked at, and for the further confirmation that they do listen. there is a great deal of anxiety around at the moment with the new upgrade on the way that the users have not been listened to. this comes as such a welcome relief. particularly as it is one of us saying it.

i still say that apple should have a noticeboard for us saying what they are or are not planning to do. what bugs they are aware of, what they can fix and what they cannot for the time being. it can be on their own terms completely but it would reassure us that we are being heard.

anyway: TO THE MODS; i know this thread isn't exactly following the TOU, but let it stay here to be bumped at least until the new update is out. there has been (as i have know doubt you are aware) an awful lot of handwringing and handbag swinging, and this thread goes a long way to mollifying it.

join the ADC and you have "more access" but there are restictions there as well

could you explain a little more about this david? what is the ADC? how does one go there?

i think logic is in a slightly different situation than the other pro apps because it was taken over from emagic, and inherited all the "problems" along the way. also, the reason the forum has become a ranting ground is because people are anxious about whether or not the issues with logic that affect them have been listened to as the next update looms. these are all the same people who have expounded its virtues and helped each other round its...eccentricities.

because there is no communication from apple these anxieties have exploded into a frenzy of ranting. perhpas a similar noticeboard for each of its proapps would be a good idea anyway. it just makes good sense, would be relatively painless for apple, and certainly diffuse peoples anxieties over an app that most people here use for their living.

(funny I never see "these problems" with the other pro apps forums)

thats because they have never have to deal with two companies

EMAGIC / APPLE who is who and who is what

and plus logic has to deal with alot more problems than most of the other forums

there is not much to say about

iChat
iLife (all)
Aperture
Finalcut studio
blah blah

as they started under apple and always been apple

and even if there was a problem they know who is to take the blame

we as logic users have been used to Emagic way of support and now we under apple thats why its different to us than other forums

if i was to talk about how good emagic were with support these people from other forums won't understand because they have never made a big switch like we have

join the ADC and you have "more access" but there are restictions there as well

can you give us a link where it says about what apple is doing on logic or if they read this forum or if they understand that the bugs we are crying about does exist

that'll be appreciated, i wouldn't mind joining

I have an olympus dss-330 that has a usb cradle and mac software - anyone out there have one of these babies? maybe we could chip in for one... then we could post mp3's of the sessions. I could host the mp3's

Let's Do this!!!!

I do this for trumpet clinics for trumpet players - you have to of course get permission from the speaker.

BTW - the olympus sotware CAN be set to automatically download from the ds330 (when in the usb craddle) AND convert it to an aiff file - then you can import into logic - create an audio sweetening channel - then a master bounce and it's done!

Shake was bought by Apple from another developer.

Final Cut was bought by Apple from another developer.

Logic was bought by Apple from another developer.

Apple have a good history of improving the pro apps they invest in. The only difference is that Logic is "newer", whereas the other apps have been under Apple's development for longer and have had time to mature.

Logic will continue to get better, I'm sure of it. If it's comparable to Shake and Final Cut Pro in their respective fields, we'll be doing ok 😉

Darlings! What happened to my thread? Anyway, there were no minutes, but the metting started with applause for the "Gods of Emagic," a talk on the history of Ultrabeat by its developer, then the developer of most of the other plug=ins talked about his puppies.

He showed how to use ES2 as a sidechain, triggered by an audio track. Very cool.

On the topic of neglect: Apple's Logic is like the stoic, distant father who works in some mysterious place we don't visit, there's no way to even call him, so we become a bit frustrated and want his attention but when he acknoledges us, we are so grateful.

I agree that a more reasonable tech support connection, even a $20 a call or something like Digidesign, would go a long way. People who need to know how to punch in can read the manuals or the forums.

How do you get to a Logic Express user group? I could use one. I have a very simple problem and Apple wants me to pay them $399 for a support agreement to answer me. I like Apple, but their (lack of) support is something out of the 3rd world! Can you steer me toward a user group or someone who can answer a question? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. I'm about an inch from going to pro tools or digital performer just because the support is so much better!!!
