triple monitor eyefinity style?

my dream for gaming would be a 3 monitor setup that shows that one large image ...!!!

works obviously on a PC but is a 3to1 monitor setup possible (Eyefinity Technology)

with a ATI Radeon HD 5870 card on a MacPro (Mac OS X and/or Boot Camp)?

thanks for your answers in advance!

What you can do is using the extended desktop with each their seperate resolution, next you go into the game's INI (config) files to set the resolution of the game manually, doing as such will make the gaming window bigger than your display and as such will extend onto the other displays

you also have to adjust the FOV to get the eyfinity effect 😉

hope this helps,

super interesting. Could you mention games that will do that, that you know of, and those that wont accept this?

i assume that all the monitors need to reflect the same resolution beforehand? i mean, you cant force a rectangular 'playing field' when youve got a 17 inch next to a 30 inch, right? the 30in would resolve to 1280x1024 to accomodate the 17 incher?

Most games have these configuration files, i know for sure that all unreal engine based games have it. games developped on a different engine probably have these files as well, but they might be named differently

as for a lsit of which games have these files, i honestly don't know as i don't have many games (borderlands does though), but if you google the game you want to play along with "config files" in the search bar you will quickly find out 😉

The resolution question, i would indeed assume you need the same resolution on all displays, i can't confirm that 100% as i have never done it, i just know you can do it that way

any joy? it is fabulous and works like a charm (even on my MacPro early 2008)!

especially SimRacing has become a whole new experience with it ... could never go back to a single screen!!!

I had some difficulties to make it work and you need the right "ingredients":

Hardware

- graphic-card:

you need a card to which you can connect all three (or more) monitors. combining them with a second card doesn't work. I use the ATI Radeon HD 5870.

- dongle/adapter:

The Adapters that you will connect your Monitors to the graphic-card.

they have to be ACTIVE and the ones available in the Mac-Store didn't work for me.

In my case the monitors have a DVI-I plug and needed an adapter to connect to the Mini DisplayPorts.

I used the "Sapphire Active Mini DisplayPort to Single-Link DVI Adapter" but you can choose other "AMD Eyefinity Validated Dongles" here. (choose carefully if your resolution will be above 1920x1200 to 2560x1600.)

-monitors

Three Monitor's of course ; ) I found 24" (1920x1080) screens for about 100box.

Software

- Bootcamp with a running Windows OS (does not work on Mac OS).

- AMD Catalystâ„¢ software to configure and setting up the 3 monitors

... and there you go! Most games offer you in their display settings to choose your new resolution!

in my case 5760x1080 (with the bevel-compensation) and highest graphics/video settings with more then 60fps in most games : )

And just a final tip for the best voted "SimRacing Game 2011":

Games Stock Car were you can Drive V8, F3, Formula 1 (1988) and a recent F1 Car with the best simulations I have ever tested!

Thanks Zaphod sounds like a great setup. the onyl problem is i have a MacBook Pro to achieve a similar set up which has a AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB graphics PCI and Intel HD 3000 built in with a thunderbolt type monitor connection.

Would you know of any configurations that would work with this spec of machine? I have read varying reviews for and against the 'Matrox TripleHead2Go' would be interested if anyone has gone down this route and what type of monitors they use with it and what results they have with Sim Racing rendering/lag time.

Cheers!
