Canon ImageRunner 5000

I am attempting to set up my machine to print to a Cannon ImageRunner 5000 copier in my office. If I set it up as a generic PCL printer I can get it to print, very very slowly, but in doing that I lose any of the features (hole punch, staple, two-side, etc) offered by the copier. If I use the driver provided by Canon the printer gets the job and then displays the job as "NG" in the log. Any ideas on what I can do differently?

Thanks!

If you are using the Postscript driver and if the iR5000 does not have the Postscript kit installed, then this will stop you from printing. For the print job that shows NG, if you select that job and then press the Details button it will show an error number, ex #861. If you can tell me the number then I will have a better idea as to the cause of the printing problem.

I just tried to print another test document. I got the NG error again and check for an error code. There wasn't an error code at the copier. It might also be helpful to know that when I click print in the print dialogue it pops up the picture below. If I enter the code I use to copy it goes to the copier and gives me the NG error, if I don't enter anything I can't progress any further.

I should add it does print if added as a generic postscript printer, just doesn't give me access to any of the functions I use the most in the stapling and punching.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the update. It shows that you are using Job Accounting (Dept ID management) and for Lion, this is not going to work from Preview and TextEdit, and possibly other applications. This is due to the interim v3.31 driver for Lion changing to uni-directional mode when printing from these applications, which in turn stops the ability to communicate correctly with the printer and thus the error, which will be Dept ID related. (If you open the System Monitor in the iR5000 and select the Print log and then highlight the NG job, and then press Details, you will see the error number - possibly #701.)

So the solution for Lion is to use the Canon PPD rather than the Generic PS driver. Since you are able to print with the generic PS driver then it shows that the Dept ID management is not blocking unknown print jobs so if you install the Canon PPDs and create a queue using the iR5000/6000 PPD, you will then have the stapling and puncher functions.

No, sorry about the confusion. Install the Canon PPDs and then add the printer using LPD and selecting the Canon iR5000/6000 in the Print Using menu instead of the Generic PS driver.

And make sure it shows just Canon iR5000/6000 in the Print Using menu. If it has any letters after the model number, such as (US), then this PPD belongs to the PS driver.
